dv to dvd -- 4:1:1 to 4:2:?

I want to burn mini dv footage to dvd mpeg-2. Can the encoding process create a 4:2:2 output or am I stuck with 4:2:0?

I don´t know much about DV but if your DV is 4:1:1 the color information was recorded originally using this subsampling was already lost in a conversion so there is no reason to convert it to 4:2:2 because it will look exactly the same, unless you have some other specific reason to do this, then I guess you could convert it to a color format that uses YUY2, try huffyuv.

You will need to find an MPEG-2 encoder (and a decoder) which can handle the 4:2:2 Main Level profile. This is used in the studio & broadcast industry. Good luck!

'upsampling' of dv to 4:2:2 is only used for editing when u need to do stuff like cromakey or something (altho iam still not sure how that really helps), you wouldnt get any benefits from that in ur case imho.
