Average bitrate in CCE

Hi, trying to find out what is the most reliable method for getting an average bitrate for a 2-3 pass VBR encode in CCE, I just want to set it and let it encode overnight, so it's finished in the morning. A few times using bitrate calculators the resulting file was to large when remuxed with the audio and I had to reencode again, any suggestions or bitrate calculators that anyone can suggest?

Use Doom's "Getting the best out of CCE" to lower the bit rate to get smaller files. You need to suffer one-pass and then set up for the multi-pass with some serious work in the Advanced VBR screen. Refer to http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27421 to make this go faster if you can trade off some space for time. I have averaged bit rates 2200-2400 with great quality - the straight multi-pass usually gets to around 3000-3600 which is much bigger file.

choose multipass vbr, set it to 9 (or however many to last thru the night) and set the avg bitrate to what you calc (round down a bit is good to make it fit).

run it overnight and enjoy, as long as you didnt pick a really low bitrate, there shouldnt be any blockyness, the multiple passes helps CCE distribute the bits nicely.

the more passes the better the distribution of the bitrate, but it doesnt go like that infinitely, in fact after a few passes the changes is probably not worth the time it takes, which is why i suggest pick the number of passes (preferably over 3) that will last over the night (if you run it overnight).

but was a little shocked cause i thought you uses 9 passes (half week? :D )

9 passes on music videos (~10min each pass) isnt all that much when the world cup is on ;)
