Hi,

The last 6 or 7 cds I have burnt with my Yamaha CDR2100E are not being read by the very same drive. They just show up as blank cds.

This happens also when a couple of friends have tried reading the files in the their cd-player (actually I noticed because they told me the cds weren't working).

However when I place the cds in my Pioneer DVD-115F they show up fine and I can read them without a problem and another friend has been able to read them without a problem (however he also tends to read all his cds with the dvd-player rather than the cd-player).

Does anyone know why this is happenning? Is it time for me to change my cdwriter ? (as I don't want in the future have a pile of unusable cds).

By the way I am running winxp and to burn those cds I must have used either nero or fireburner or clonecd (cannot remeber I think they crap cds might just be fireburner and clonecds but not sure). The cd brand is Ridata 700MB 24x CD-R.

Thanks for any help you will be able to provide.

Have you been overburning discs?

I have in the past (and they all worked fine in all drives even the ones of 715MB) and 1 of those cds was overburned but the others were not (like 680-695 mbs).

I also checked with other friends and they all the same problem cd-readers/writers will not read them but dvd-reader will read them fine.

May or may not be the culprit, but they are very very bad disc indeed. I believe they are from Ritek (http://www.ritek.com.tw/). They are known for cheap price, not quality. I suggest you try Taiyo Yuden (http://www.t-yuden.com/recordablemedia/index.cfm)'s disc. Taiyo Yuden is the OEM supplier for Mitsubishi, Sony and Kodak. "That's" is their direct marketting label.
