I am not sure, if the Resolution tab is working the way it should work?!?
GKnot v0.26
1) Cropping leaves black borders at the left side (maybe, because I use the SmartRipper DVD2AVI project file). Too lazy to test it with DVD2AVI 1.86. :o
2) Output resolution is not exactly calculated: DVD cover says for a movie like BLOW (16:9) 1:2,35 aspect ratio, which means that we have e.g. 640x272. The result of GKnot is 640x256 (2,5:1). Same thing for 1,78:1 (640x352). The result of GKnot is 640x336 (1,9:1 and 1,93:1).

Hi,
your post isn't very detailed, but I try to give some hints.
First of all: Never use SmartRipper .d2v file! That's what GordianKnot says and that's what all guides say. This feature is still experimental in SmartRiper 2.41.
Second: Stick to DVD2AVI 1.76 that is included in the GordianKnot package. 1.86 may or may not work, I don't know. Well, it worked for me but that doesn't mean anything, it's not recommended.
Third: Cropping leaves black borders? Did you use the auto-crop feature.? Maybe you should crop manually..., then choose Smart Crop All.
Last: Maybe you didn't uncheck the 'Follow ITU-R BT.601 standard' in the options tab? Try so. You should get what you expect. Nevertheless, GKnot tries to stay with resolutions that are divisible by 16 and 32 (depends on what you choose in the resolution tab) which is recommended. Maybe this gives you small errors, I never calculated that on my own.

Yes, I forgot to uncheck the 'Follow ITU-R BT.601 standard'! Now the resolution options works fine, but cropping leaves in the movie BLOW still black borders at the left side. I tested it with the DVD2AVI 1.76 project file.
BTW: Got the same results with the SmartRipper DVD2AVI project file - works really fine.

What do you mean? Cropping still leaves black borders, so why don't you crop them away manually?
Where do you see the black borders? In Windows Media Player? Then be assured that this is totally normal, check the FAQ on doom9's site. You find there every information.

Auto Crop -> Smart crop all -> still a black border at the left side in GKnot -> resized -> black border still there
Doesn't matter I do not use GKnot, I always crop manually using my own AVIsynth script and VirtualDub!
I just tested it for fun and thought that my post might be helpful, if it is a bug or not. Thanks for your tips. Appreciated it. ;)

If you use autocrop and still notice black bars then select the crop manually and THEN select autocrop all. Autocrop all will not use less crop values then you set manually. It will simply leave the crop value as you set it or change it automatically as you change the resolution to maintian the aspect ratio.
