XviD plays dark and slow?

My experience, after encoding 7-8 movies with
XviD and Vidomi is next:
Movies are too dark and skip frames (stutter)
on every window resize.:mad:

When I change FourCC to DivX, everything works fine!
Why so?

My PC:
Celeron 900, 192 RAM, 5400rps HD, TNT2 Ultra 32mb AGP,
VGA resolution 800*600

Thanks for the report, but there are some details that could help us: which compile of XviD do you use? Do you use ffdshow?

I recall some other Vidomi-user reporting strange XviD-playback (coloured dots) that got solved after changing the fourcc to divx. Can you try encoding with VirtualDub just for a test? (One-pass would be sufficient.)

The guy that made it tried talking shit about XviD and Nandub over at [H]ardOCP's forums and I called him on it.

Virtualdub is better and I would even say Flask is :p

I think that's not fair. Just because you have personal differences with the programmer doesn't mean his software is bad. Actually I think it provides many powerful and easy to use features in one program. Those are my 2 cents. But I think personal attacks should not be used. (I think it violates forum rules too)

I changed few Nic`s releases and Koepi`s last one buut it`s allways the same. I´ve tried last ffdshow but then it made my RadLight player useless and got cca 24 fps (instead of 25) playback. Now I have only
XviD installed and DivX 4.12 (for playback :-))

Marty, the guy that makes Vidomi is preparing new release now that
will have XviD as the default encoding codec (before it was divx 3.11)
I like it because it is pretty simple and gives me great picture (xvid 2 pass).

Vidomi is an excellent piece of software; particularly if you have an SMP box.

The only minor issue with it atm is that the output files are not interleaved correctly, I believe. I always run the output through Virtual Dub, using the direct stream copy function, which helps remove any jerkiness.

Marty's a nice guy, we mail each back & forth now and then....Ive had bad luck with vidomi, also the YV12 support uses the mpeg2avi resize (which is bad & blurry), so many people that use vidomi end up using rgb (so ive heard, not sure if thats true). But that isnt good news. But if it works well for some thats great :)

So other peoples' Vidomi-made encodings are OK?

Another thought: Do you use Nic's DSF ATM by any chance? Then check whether you have post-processing enabled - which can slow down playback - and try correcting the brightness setting in the filter.

If you don't use that one, maybe your speed-problem relates to using EPSZ^2 motion-search which is defaulted in Nic's and Koepi's binaries. I know my processor isn't up to playing that back... ...but then again, my CPU is only half as fast as yours. :( Anyway, a small chance, but try uManiac's build.
