"Resuming" in CCE

I haven't found a topic on this, so I'd like to know it there's a way to resume the CCE encoding when the PC crashes. When I'm at the 4th pass of encoding and the PC locks up, it's quite annoying to start all over again.

No way...

You can only reuse the .vaf file. So you can spare at least the first analyzing pass.

Actually, CCE rewrites the vaf file for every pass, this is how the quality increases with multiple passes. That said, if your computer crashes after the second pass (on the third of four), then you should only have to do 2 times multipass to get the equivalent. As opposed to doing the 4 pass again. Does that make sense?

I'm pretty sure this is correct, you can reference the CCE manual if you like.

As written in the DVD2SVCD guide I chose 4 passes. I thought this means that there's 1 pass for the .vaf to create and 4 passes for the .mpv, right?

That's correct. The first pass (.vaf creation) does not count.

I'm still unsure regarding the updating of the .vaf file during each pass. It makes sense that it would do this, and people here have said it does, but the 'last modified' timestamp doesn't change after each pass. This makes it hard for me to believe that the file is updated after each pass.

There was a thread concerning the updated .vaf file and the number of passes, but I don't remember where. Maybe someone knows.
