okie, here are the specs of my avi
640 x 480
frame rate hovers abt 24.4 (so is that NTSC?)

here's what i did, i loaded the file into TMPEG and used the default svcd (PAL) setting, (i'm in Asia). So the end result is a PAL mpeg 2 file. I burned it to svcd using nero with setting to PAL and standard compliant, but when i watch on my dvd player, i noticed that i wasnt seeing the whole image, as in it seems to be cut off at the sides. Can anyone help me correct this?

Yep.

That's called "overscan". Instead of crop[640x468] and resize[480x480] you should crop[640x468], resize[448x448] and add borders to end up with 480x480.

Or add borders in the beginning, thus add borders to end up with 648x480 and resize[448,448].

Use that program FitCD and play with it.
