View Full Version : 23.97 fps to 29.97 fps Conversion?

I have downloaded an MPEG1 movie which has 23.97 fps reported by Bitrate Viewer. The video is encoded at 352X240 CBR. I don't know the audio rate as it's not reported by Bitrate viewer and I don't know of any tool that will tell me that. Looks like this file is VCD FILM compliant.

I want to convert this MPEG file to VCD compliant MPEG file which is 29.97fps so that I can play on my standalone player.

I know how to author an MPEG so, all I need to know is how to do the conversion? Can someone point me to a guide which will do the 2:3 PULLDOWN and still keep the audio in sync during this conversion?

Thanks

Your stand alone should play it fine as is.
If it was mpeg-2 I would suggest you use Pulldown, but it doesn't work on Mpeg-1 from what I understand.

Moved since it has no direct DVD2SVCD connection.

Like mark said, don't worry about converting, 23.976 should play just fine in your standalone because it is a part of the VCD standard. You can't apply pulldown to a video of half vertical resolution because there are no fields to weave together during playback. Thats why VCD film had to be made standard, as you cannot telecine something without fields. On top of that MPEG 1 dosen't support interlacing so telecine is impossible.
Once again just burn it as 23.976 and you'll be fine.

I am using VCDImager that is bundled with D2S to create the BIN & CUE files. But, when I created the BIN & CUE file with using the XML language, it didn't come out well. The same XML script when applied to another MPEG1 file which is also 352X240 NTSC 1150 CBR 29.97fps works fine.

From your reply, it seems that I should not use VCDImager to create the BIN & CUE file and rather use some other tool to burn? Or is there a way to use VCDImager for burning VCDs which have 23.97 fps video?

Thanks

Download VCDEasy from Doom9's software page, it has an MPEG checker that makes sure the file is VCD compliant. If it is, then VCDImager shouldn't have a problem writing the cue/bin. Also try using VCDEasy to generate those if you're having trouble with the commandline, I personally don't use the commandline because the GUIs make authoring a lot easier and they work well.

I downloaded th VCDEasy 1.1.1 Full Installer and tried to create the XML/ BIN & CUE files.

After VCDEasy analyzed the MPEG file, it said I can only have ONE CHAPTER!!!! I don't understand why? The BIN & CUE files created by my XML also repeat the same time for every chapter. And the only successful chapter is at 00:00:00

Anyone have any idea why can't I have any chapters? Is there anyway, I can have chapters?

Thanks

What is the best way to demux and then remux it again?

I just want to try that maybe that fixes this problem.

Thanks.

Start TMPGEnc and click File->MPEG Tools, click the simple de-multiplex tab and load the movie in and hit 'run', then mux the resulting 2 files in the simple multiplex tab as "MPEG 1 Video-CD"

TmpgEnc is a very nice program indeed, but it shouldn't be used (actually it's mpeg-tools) for de- and remuxing. Sometimes it turns out fine and the when you least expect it, it doesn't.

BBtools is the weapon of choise here.
