Well, here my experience in discovering the dvd to dvdr.

First, my configuration

Clean Xp installation, Windows updated,40 Gb plus 80Go in RAID 0; This helps :-)
Pioneer DVR-A03, firmware 1.65 (Zone2) on secondary master, DVD 116 Zone free.

aspi4all 4.60
SmartRipper (Great soft, thx to the coder)
IFO Edit (Incredible Great soft, big thx to the coder)
RecordNOW Max (thx also, but guy was paid paid for :-)
WinDVD 4
DVD2AVI and Vobrator

For every case, it was cdrecordable DVD-R and I always burn at X2, about 30 min a DVD-r

Well.
First attempt: Desperado Zone 1 : Full rip, Get VTS, drag and drop to RecordNOW as less 4.7 G, burn, working perfectly as the original in PC, Sony DSP-715 and PS2 PAL using DVD Region X

Great !

Second attempt : Tombraider Zone 2 , Full rip, removed extra and keep menu and movie, get VTS, drag and drop and burn. I get an error from RecordNOW, opening the tray a few second after starting, writing nothing with an error with no detail.
Humm.. I read the log file from the recordNOW dir and it's said : Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-103 Stopped because of VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS DVD format error
Humm..(2) then I made an image from RecordNOw (right click on video_ts folder, extract track to image) and then burn it. Works fine in PC but not at all in PS2 and Standalone DVD

Well, I decided to do a movie only dvd which will be enough for this movie in fact. Just keep needed vob, delete everything else, rename to 01 vobs, create IFO and get VTS, drag and drop and burn. OK on PC,Standalone and PS2

Third attempt; The 6th day, Zone 2. Full rip, deleted everything except video_ts.* and vts06*.* , removed the french menu in both vts0X_0.vob and strip unused id + annoying FukingBI. Get VTS. Works fine in windvd but error on Recordnow, the same as before : VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS DVD format error

I read somewhere that vts_01 is needed to comply with DVD spec. All right, let's put vts_01_0.ifo & dup and vts_01_0.vob.I don't put vts_01_1.vob... GET VTS
Same thing : Ok on windvd but not in recordnow... GRRRRRR
After doing all step about 10 times and trying not to rip that or that and so on... same. GRRRR GRRRR GRRRR

Ok, let's put all the other .ifo . dup and _0.vob as they are all small and I have enough room left on the DVD-R (not much but enough). GET VTS, drag and drop....
same. ARRRGGGGHHHHH

Well, let's put some dummy files for missing vobs to fit the exact original file tree. I use the VTS_01_0.vob which is 34Kb and copy/rename it to create dummy files. GET VTS.

Ohhh. RecordNOW accept now to burn it !
Burned X2.
Play slugglish with 1 big green band at the bottom of the screen (on menu & movie) in the stand alone player, play perfectly in the PS2 (?!?) and not at all in the PC (????!!!????)

Cannot understand how I can have such results, but I have

If playing in the PC I would say, media problem, write speed issue but as it's not playing in the PC, this seems very strange to me.
So I re burn at X1 : same, exactly.

So finally, I come back to the easy solution : I just kept the main vobs, create IFO, GET VTS, Drag and Drop, burn X2. Play fine in PC,PS2 & Standalone.

Quite a long thread, but can someone help me to understand why i can't get a dvdr with working menus ?

Thx,

Klona

Don't you need to create new IFOs when you are stripping items out of the movie? Just using the Get VTS does not seem right, well, I am a junioe member anyways, so maybe someone else can comment.

No. You need to create ifo if you just have Vobs and want to do a standalone player compatible movie.

GET VTS only check for sector position of the different files, what is changed if you removed files, removed cell or audio etc.

Normally, you can just removed audio and sub you don't want, remoe boring FBI warning, delete vobs concerning extra and bonus you don't want .
then, GET VTS to resolve sector address values and burn.

But i cannot manage to have a standalone compatible dvd this way and I do not understand why.

Extra info on my experience ; I retried doing an image from IFOedit. same.
When trying to burn from VOB Instant DVD, it tells me that total size is 5.8 Mb but in explorer I have only 4.2Mb. Surely a bad value in IFO which cause all my trouble but cannot find where.
