system hangs - don't know why

Trying to do just the first episode of BuffyTVS but after starting the rip, everything seems OK but after about 10 minutes the whole system hangs and I have re-start (so I don't even have an error log thing). What info do you need to help and I'll try to supply it - but I'm not a techie so ...

Don't have much time, so just a quick guess. these after-about-xx-minutes-of-100%-cpu-load-my-system-hangs problems quite frequently are due to overheated systems. so grab yourself a hardware monitor proggi like mbm5. for testing purposes you also could just open your case and see what happens.
