Video at double speed

Some of my older 3.11 movies are now playing at double speed while audio sounds good and quality looks allright. I had that since I started working with 5 codec and thought when using the option to
change my registry, as so clearly instructed by one of the members,
it would solve that. Now all 3.11 content is being played as such
but still at double speed. Zoom player helps a bit but not so that
all these films are perfectly in synch.:confused:

What I did find out was that with DivX player 2.0 (the one that comes
in the 5 codec pro bundle) I get everything perfectly in synch, contrary too all those recommended Zoom and BS players. I even get
simultanous PC and TV output. Just curious why that is:eek:

I once met a computer that wanted to play everything at 1/2 speed.. Since it wasn't mine I only put down a couple of hours and never understood why so, not all problems can be explained. Unless of course you're allowed to do a complete reinstall of the OS, then it's usually ok...

Soul, is your problem half or double speed, the latter can be fixed with DivX player 2.0 (in the 5.0 Codec Pro bundle) as per my post of June 8th.

so should I uninstall divx5 player & install divx 2 ?

Soul, I installed DivX 5.02 pro bundle that includes the DivX 2.0
player, (haven't found a way to install the player only). Having done
that I was able to play "old" 3.11 content films at normal speed, which all other players e.g. "Zoom" & "BS" were not able to do, don't ask me why, I haven't found out yet and nobody cared enough to shine a light. Lemme know if it works for you too.

One question: The audio in the .avi's, are they mono?

Swede, mine are stereo using the Lame MP3 Codec.

i have the same problem

but my audio is skipping half a second because of double speeded video :(

so you only hear sound bits and a too fast audio

i have a fresh installed windows 98se with divx 3.11 only!!!

maybe it's my soundcard (i have a nforce board), the drivers are still messed up a bit...

if someone found a solution...i would be happy

Bad Joker. For what it's worth I solved most of my speed problems now with The Morgan Stream Switch, I guess that DivX player 2.0 uses that automatically. Start up one of your "bad" films with the old WMP and if you have MSS on board goto properties and advanced and switch the MSS so that you hear no sound switch it again and watch what happens.
It may solve your problems too.

I think you must have downloaded that movie, as no one who's studied at this site would make a movie at 720x272 and downsample to 24,000Hz. Bad AR and lousy sound-a great combination. The sampling rate probably explains the playback problems as well.

LOL, yeah it was something I downloaded ages ago, when I was still young and fresh. In fact it was one of those VHS or Laser Discs ripped Indiana Jones ones. 720x272 is intolerable!

i have the same problem as i just backed up a dvd to sbc avi
and it's got a vbr mp3

using windows media player in XP and it plays double speed
also powerdvd plays double speed

tho if i play an sbc avi with a CBR mp3 it plays properly

so maybe the vbr mp3 is causing the problems?

Like manono said try to upsample the audio to 44100 and see whether the playback problem is still there.

lame made the vbr to 24000hz grrrrr

resampled from wav to 48000hz and works fine
no more double speed

Ok, I forgot: You need to install the radium codec, which can cope with higher sample rates. It can be found on Dooms download section.

I have the Radium Codec installed and yeah it gets it right, only thing is that for some movies (in most cases the 24khz/96 kbps ones) I have to use Morgan's Stream Switch to synch video/audio. If that's normal, no problem, I'm just wondering.
