Is it possible to burn with Nero (5.5.8.2) a DVD image
created with ImgTools?
(I hope not to be out of topics here...)

TIA.

Hey there,

Sorry I can not help but I have a few questions of my own. I am trying to create some type of file that can be burned with Nero that will play on a stand alone dvd player. I am sorry I forgot to mention I am using Imgtools. I have chosen mux and loaded my .m2v and .ac3 file and created one large .vob. but, I am not sure what to name it or how to burn it if this is even possible. So to recap, I am trying to create some type of file or files using Imgtools that I can burn with Nero and watch on a stand alone dvd player. I just wanted to add that I am trying to create dvd backups just so you guys know. Thanks in advance for any help.

@hewtra: should be possible though I haven't tried it myself (I use DVD Decrypter to burn img files)

@blindy: you need to visit my site and read up on the DVD guides.

Hello Doom9,

First off thanks a lot for this very useful site. Second, I have read all the guides but I sort of have a special circumstance here. I am actually blind, I know that sounds wiered a blind guy making dvd backups and vcds and such.
but, I really enjoy the process of making them and have friends that enjoy watching them with me. So, since I am blind I only can use certain programs that work with my speech program. I have tried every authoring program, it seems, and only one works for me, Ulead Moviefacotry. A easy program to use but not very good quality. No, .ac3 support. And .ac3 is very important to me. I am currently learning your Ifoedit method but a bit confused with learning the structure of the dvd and what can be stript and what needs to stay. I really only want the main movie thats it, no menus or anything else.
But what I found out is that Imgtools seems to work for me no problem but I am lost with the results. I have loaded a .m2v file and loaded a .ac3 file under mux and have saved it to a .vob file. but, what do I name it and is it alright that it is one large one. Then I figure I use the video ifo file from my original rip and the ifo file that goes with the .vob files. Then I just burn with Nero. Is this correct or is there a easier way? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

You ask a lot of questions, it's far better to ask one or 2 at a time, more chance of getting a correct answer.

To answer some of your questions.

If you are looking to burn a DVD Image, DVD Factory is very easy to use. I have it myself, and have used it several times, with no problem at all.

Imgtool is also very good, I have also used this program with great success.

Like you I only rip the movie, this keeps things as simple as possbile.

I note you say you have muxed an .m2v and .ac3 file and got a VOB. The DVD format says that no VOB should be more than 1GB (more or less). So, you should have several VOB files.

Try and keep away from Nero, there are several versions at present, with people having various levels of success.

Can I suggest you create a new thread, and keep your questions as simple as possible, one step at a time.

Sorry for all the questions at once. I agree with what you are saying and realize that too much right off the bat will not get me the results or help I am looking for. You said that you have used Imgtools with good results. could you break down the process into steps for me? I ripped the dvd with Smartripper and have a .m2v and .ac3 file. If you could let me know how to create something like a dvd image to be burned with Moviefacotry and how to burn the image I would be greatful. Sorry that I am a beginer and need step by step insturctions with Imgtools and Moviefacotry.

blindy007,

From the questions you are posing, it is clear that you are new to the process.

I'm afraid you are asking the wrong question !! Just by ripping a .m2v file and .ac3 file is not enough to jump to imgtool and Dvd Factory.

In fact, I can't understand why you are playing with these particular file types anyway ?

Lets start again shall we ?

Doom9 suggested you read some of the user guides.

Have you done this ? (I know you are blind, but I guess your software should be able to handle them OK). If you don't know where to find them, they are on the home page (not the forum page)

I have to say, some are better than others, but practise makes perfect as they say. They should at least enable you to ask a more informed question.

What movie are you trying to rip. Some are a lot easier than others. In fact, some are VERY easy, (DVD-5 type single layer) while others are VERY hard. (DVD-9 type double layer).

Can I suggest you get your hands on a DVD-5 type. These rip with no problems. Then you can use Imgtool and DVD Factory straight away. (well almost).

And start a new thread !!!!!!! This one is now way off track.

or Private Mail me.

HomerJ :)
