Hi All,

For those of you who already use their PC as a DVD player, you'll probably already know of this, but for newbies and the like you might find this interesting. A PC remote control.

Firstly, my home theatre setup consists of a Yamaha 5.1/DTS reciever, Kodak Projector, and a Duron 800 PC with a videologic DVD decoder card. Because the PC is dedicated to playing and ripping DVD's/DivX, I don't have a monitor, keyboard or mouse hooked up to it. To play movies, I used the remote desktop control feature of netmeeting to control the PC in my theatre room. The problem with this is that it's a pretty cumbersome way of doing things. This is were my search for a PC remote control started.

To cut a long story short, I went to www.pcremotecontrol.com and downloaded the demo. To my suprise, I was able to use this software with the remote from my Yamaha reciever with the generic Infra Red serial port I got for hooking up my mobile phone to the PC to enable my PC to be fully controlled from my Yamaha remote!! VERY cool!!

Very cool, thanks for sharing.

LOL, controlling your PC with a laptop... that was my very first Living Room PC solution! God, what a pain in the ass.

Anyway, I still prefer my programmable PC remote, becuase its got a gryo mouse built right in. Its expensive though, I only bought it cause I got 75% off retail when CompUSA went under. The software you linked too is defintely a cheaper solution.

Are you guys aware that the post you are now all praising is 7 years old? Or is this an inside joke?
