If I have a DV500, can I capture with VirtualDub from a VCR tape for either VCD or DVD authoring, and use that cool VirtualDub filter logoaway to get rid of those damn TV logos? I'm tired of waiting for DVD's to come out so I want to capture from TV but I don't want the damn TV logos!

Don't know whether you can capture with VDub. But if you want to use Logoaway you can always use the frameserver of VDub, or AviSynth http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=23804 (both in version 1.2 and 1.3).

Commander XJL,

Sorry to say that but you cannot use your DV500 with VirtualDub since VirtualDub needs a VFW driver. DV500 uses its own Pinnacle DV driver which is recognized under Premiere, for instance. An other thing: even under Premiere, you can't use any other codec than a DV codec to capture (this means no Huffyuv, MJPeg,...). This is because the compression is done by the card itself and it can't be bypassed. The advantage is that you won't have dropped frames (unless your hard-drive is really slow) but your are stuck to DV format.

Steph.

So I capture with Premiere then use VirtualDub? Do I leave the file DV format after Premiere or does VirtualDub need an MPEG2 file?

Virtualdub can use the Pinncale Avi file. You don't need to use Premier if you don't like, use the Pinnacle DVtool. And if your camcorder or other DV device has analog/dv inn/out then you can record analog video as DV.

Take the analog video from the vcr to the composit inn of the camcorder and the firewire from the camcorder to the firewire of DV500.

As long as the Piccanle codec is in the Pc you can use any aplication to work with this file format.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough ;)

As Jestorius wrote, you capture with your DV500 using Pinnacle's DV format (either under Premiere or with Pinnacle's tool) and the resulting avi file could then be used by any application.
Since the DV500 has the blue-box (with analog in/out), you don't need the camcorder step Jestorius talked about. Just plug your VCR analog out in the blue-box in and capture using Pinnacle's DV Codec. The DV500 will automaticaly convert the analog stream to a DV compliant one.

You are right. Why do I use my DVcam to convert the analog video to DV? I must be .... maybe the DVtool 2.x couldn't capture from analog source or it was just a bad habit..

.. and , I didn't tried but you have to be right , we can't use Virtualdub to capture video with DV500.

Ok guys thanks. Is it hard to figure out how to use the logoaway filter?
