View Full Version : Spy Game DVD Subtitle problem

Hi,

I have been using TRILIGHT's method to rip sub titles and have no problems up until now... I should also mention that this is my first NTCS disc , all other successful rips have been PAL.

Anyway, I am following TRILIGHT's guide but my imported sub titles are gradually falling out of sync towards the end of the movie.. I am finding this very frustrating...

The movie is Region 1 "SPY GAME" - I have re-encoded the video down to a suitable size , pulldown has been done and it successfully imports into Maestro @ 29.7 fps. There seems to be no issue with the video stream.. The 5.1 audio has no sync issues either.

The subs rip without problems using subrip, and after ripping (before saving) I convert to "Sonic DVD Creator (*.txt)" - At this point, there is an option to save as PAL or NTSC - I select NTSC and then I can tick an option for either 30 fps or 29.7 drop. I have tried both and it seems to make no difference either way..I then use ScriptConverter to ouput a son file..The wallclock in Maestro is reset to 0:00:00:00 before importing subs as is normal.

I know it probably something simple I am not doing correctly.. If anyone can suggest what would cause the subs to fall out of sync towards the end of the movie, please feel free to suggest something

Thanks very much

Fletch

Sorry about the previous post. I typed it in Notepad while putting the process together. I messed with it to make it look right here and it looked fine on my 18.1" LCD in the computer room. I just now looked at it on the laptop and it's all screwed up again. Sorry everyone! I just don't feel like jacking with it again or retyping the whole thing.

Thanks TRILIGHT for your very comprehensive reply !

I will try it out tonight when I get home from work and advise my results.

Cheers

Damn... I was hoping you would not have seen any of that before I had a chance to come back and edit it. The whole thing may be unnecessary. I think I found what was wrong. I'm testing it now and will post my results. I'm removing the steps I posted in case someone accidentally sees it. I'd rather check this test I'm doing first. I'll put it back if it doesn't work. Be right back! :)

Well, for better or worse, I found what probably went wrong. Make sure that you are doing the following (in order)...

1) Make sure you have two copies of the video clip. One with the drop frame flag set and one without. You can set this using PULLDOWN.EXE.

2) Import all of your assets into Maestro. Place the video clip WITHOUT the drop frame flag on the timeline.

3) Import your chapters.

4) Remove the video from the timeline and replace it with the one that DOES have the drop frame flag set.

5) Import your subtitles.

Your subs should now be in sync. What you're probably noticing is that the subs progressively fall behind the video as it plays. After about an hour, you will notice a 2.5 second delay which increases to a 5 second delay after 2 hours and a 10 second delay after 3 hours.

The reason you have to follow the order above is because Maestro will give you an error if you try to import the chapter list onto a video clip that is "drop frame". Next (and this is important), you MUST import your subs when you have a "drop frame" video clip on the timeline. If you do so before, it won't matter if you replace the video clip on the timeline. The subs will always be off from then on because they were imported wrong. Make sure you import your subs while the drop frame video clip is on the timeline and you should be fine. Don't worry about the audio. It will still be in sync.

Hi Again !

Ahh, I'm using DVD2SVCD to resize my video stream. It performs pulldown when needed on NTSC streams... so this is quite new to me ...

This is the command lines I need to type ? -

Example usage for a 29.97 int or hybrid source stream:

pulldown source.m2v target.m2v -nopulldown -drop_frame true

Example usage for a 23.976fps source:

pulldown source.m2v target.m2v -drop_frame true

Its look like family commitments won't allow me to try this tonight after all but i'll test it tomorrow night and let you know how it works out.

Thanks for all your help !

I am having the same exact problem and came across this thread while doing a search.

I have already run pulldown on the video file and deleted the original one.

Can I still run pulldown on the file again to create a -drop_Frame version of it to try this fix of yours?

Thanks

Just make sure you use the -nopulldown switch since all you're doing is changing the drop type.
