WindowsXP and IfoEdit Question

Hi Folks,
I'm new here so I apologize if this has been discussed before and/or this is OT. I noticed that Darrow has stated on his website that there are issues with WinXP and IfoEdit and that one should use W2K or W98. For various reasons I need to do a clean re-install and was wondering should I go back to w2k or re-install XP? What is the specific bug?

In my xperience after a clean install of XP and IFOEDIT, I have had absolutely no problems - for the past 4 months.

I had no DVD playback in IfoEdit on XP, but i had too many codecs installed from a long time and lots of shit installed/desinstalled over the last year... I also had trouble with PrimoDVD which did'nt recognize my DVR-AO3.
So i did a new clean install, and install WinDVD4 along with IfoEdit.

Everything fine now.

I too am using IFOEdit with Win XP. As far as I can tell - I haven't had any problems. However, I close IFOEdit after every operation and then restart it.

Hi all...
I rencoded the mummy returns VOB # 1 in Tmpgenc ....no probs.

when I try to remux with ifoedit .....it just hangs ...doing drive access and sucking up a lot of resources. It never progresses and I have to kill it in WINXP. I have left it for over an hour.

In Win 98 with 128MB RAM I get a memory realloc error after 2 minutes and it cnacells out ifoedit.


Anybody seen this kind of behaviour before?

Ifoedit works great on my system: WinXP Pro. I don't know about you guys, but since switching to the NTFS, IfoEdit is hella faster.

The problem you are experiencing is because you are trying to perform a feature which ifoedit doesn't support (currently). The remux feature only works correctly for rempeg'd files. Even though you see in ifoedit where it mentions tmpgenc, it hasn't ever been able to do it correctly yet. Derrow has reported some success with PAL DVDs using tmpgenc and remuxing, but still doesn't claim that his program works with tmpgenc at this stage, as far as I know.

Hope that clears things up some. Oh let me mention it's not Windows XP based at all, it matters not what OS you run it on. And for the record I have been using ifoedit since version 0.7x on Windows XP, and it hasn't given me any issues, unlike many other programs, some of which i stopped even trying to use because they always crashed in Windows XP (dvd2dvdr, for one).

Did you try running them in Windows 95/98/2k compatibility mode? Seems to work well.

Every single compatibility mode offered by the OS (even used apcompat.exe with windows 2000 [which is what windows xp uses anyway, they just made it easier for endusers to configure it by giving it a nice GUI] and couldn't get them to work via that path). Dvd2dvdr doesnt work for many people i know, its ridiculously buggy, and I've got no idea what it does entirely since I can't run it, but I hear it's only good for main-movie-only dvdrs, so I'm not really interested. Just wish whoever coded it would make it work for non-legacy systems, since most of us who know a bit of anything won't use the 9x kernal anymore.
