Hi!
Haven't been using DVD2SVCD in a while and now saw that it can convert AVI files to SVCD THX :D
I've been searching the forum for about 20minutes now but couldn't find an answer to my question. I hope I still don't ask it twice!
How can I encode multiple AVIs (grabbed by VirtualDub e.g.) to make a complete movie. For exmaple I grab vom VHS to AVI with 720x576. So I have like 10 big AVIS on my HD. How can I tell DVD2SVCD to use them alltogether to make one movie out of it?
Thanks for the help

can't you just join the AVI's in Vdub?

that would mean I have to compress them which would result in a loss of quality. FAT32 doesnt allow files to be bigger than 4GB that's the reason why I _have_ several files.
Any other hints? Maybe someonce could show me how I use a frameserving thing from Adobe Premiere or something like that!

Somebody said that you could use Link2 frameserving in dvd2svcd (haven't tried it my self though).
AVS (with all the avi's you want) --> Link2 --> DVD2SVCD

This says like nothing to me
Could you maybe be a bit more specific? Maybe some links to tutorials of these programs?
I'll also search the forum for these too now!
thx very much!

can't vdub read avi type-2 files I believe. Using that free canopus converter results in zero quality loss.

Yeah Virtual Dub should be able to handle multiple avi files since you can record them with it ;-)
What I'm doing now is recording a movie vom VHS to AVI with the DV Master. So I already use DV compression which results in about 22GB in splittet avi files for a 90min movie (720x567 in size).
I dont really know how I could use this free codec. Can I use Virtual Dub or something to make a file with the extension *.avi that pretends to be just one file but is serving all the AVIs to DVD2SVCD?
Any more hints? Thank!

Must of missed this in your search.

It's an older post on an older version, but I don't think anything has changed related to it.

I would be interested if you can get the DDog or mkanel to work for this split files. I tried them both and they did not appear to work on mine ie. the "GO" button on DVD2SVCD still appeared greyed out when I tried it. I am going to try link2 next and see whether it helps

zur128 the go button greyed out is a different issue I believe. Make sure that the files are not read only and are on a hard drive and not a cd-rom. DVD2SVCD needs write access to the files. Also you cannot serve the files to DVD2SVCD through Vdub or something else, they must be straight AVI files. There is also an issue with files made by premier, they won't work. You must convert them first.

I currently use these 3 methods :
- the SegmentedAviSource Avisynth which is a powerful Avisynth to load several sequential files in one line and can be used as described in the thred to load several sequential clips into Avi2Svcd.
- Lnk2 is a "shareware" which basically does the same as Vfapi does. But seemingly with improved performance. The fake avi can be loaded in Avi2Svcd as well.
- there is an amazing utility ( Doom download) which "apparently" knows how to merge several files (tested with avi, mp3, mpeg ...) . The optional "delete one by one", avoid to double the HD storage

F.Y.I.
I Have been trying for almost 2 years now with help from all of Doom9's resources and VCDhelp. DVD2SVCD is a godsend, as is the author. The quality is incredible, but I could never get anything close with captures.
Well as DVD2SVCD said a few replys up, use link2. With AVI2SVCD it works. And the quality is incredible. Rivals the original. I have tried them all including DDogs combine script. Yes it worked (Thanks DDogg) but this tops it.
For the newer people I will step through it. (Sorry for the length of the post)
1) Capture with virtualdub. CD quality audio 172kbs. Video set at whatever you want or your machine can handle without dropping frames. I use 640 x 480. I use Huff as my codec, but it takes up a lot of space. About 30 gigs for an hour and a half of movie. Turn on multisegment capturing.
2) Load the first AVI into virtualdub. Depending on your source (mine is interlaced) apply your filters. First I deinterlace, then resize to 480 x 480 using bicubic .60. Start your frameserver.
3) Run Link2. Now as the source file choose the frameserved file. (fs.vdr or whatever you called it). Output file can be whatever you want .avi. Make sure to use raw audio under one of the menus. It will take a couple of minutes to store the audio. When it finishes you can close link2. (DO NOT close the frameserver from virtualdub)
4) Launch dvd2svcd 1.0.9 b2. Choose avi as input. Set your default folders and cd image settings. Under the conversion tab choose the output file created with link2. You do not need to deinterlace, resize, whatever because it was done in Virtualdub.
Speed issues: If you download link2 from the website it is limited to 5 frames per second. After seeing the results from this I purchased it. To be truthful, I haven't noticed an increase in speed after purchasing it, but it could be my machine(Athlon 1.2, 512mb, seperate 80 gig capture drive on a 133 UDMA card). I usually get about .353 in CCE.
Last but not least, I would like to say that I hope I haven't stepped on anybody's toes. Everything I did here came from posts I have read here, a little ingenuity and a LOT of testing. I have visited doom9 for over a year and a half and everytime I hit a wall, someone else posted something that if it didn't solve an issue led me towards another idea to try. My Thanks goes out to everyone involved, DVD2SVCD, but also the Moderators, application developers and people just interested in lending a hand.
Let me know if this helps.

Thank your very much for that post! I've been on holiday for a couple of days but I will test the described method as soon as possible!
Thx again!

xly,
I'd like to take a look at the third method that you use but I couldn't find the utility you were refering to. What's it called?
Thanks. Mkanel
The name of the utility is Filemerger. It is not anymore listed by Doom9 ...and I am afraid that it does do the job at least for Avi DV.
May I change by proposal by a more serious one, but limited to Avi DV files and ...shareware. The name aDVFile converter and the site is :
