don,t want to sound thick how do you run ntfs is a downloadable program or is it in my pc .please give me a small guide.much thanks
NTFS = NT File System.
it was designed by microsoft for it's NT servers. it's a more robust file system than fat (=fat16) than comes with dos and upto win95, and also better than fat32 (that comes with win98 upwards). ntfs can and should be installed on NT, win 2000 and XP (what's win.net???).
ntfs (as any other file system) is determined before the 'format' process for a drive. so unless your drive was formatted with ntfs, you can't 'install' it later without formatting your drive again.
to check whether you use ntfs or not:
open 'my computer'. right click on drive c. select 'properties'. you should see at the top:
File System :<yourFileSystem>
if it's ntfs, you're lucky. if it's fat16, it's quite bad. if it's fat32, you can live with that.
in order to change the filesystem, you'll probably need the help of a technichan. don't try that yourself unless you know what you're doing.
cheers
