I currently have a sony dvd 16x drive. However, during the ripping process, I get a blue screen of death saying I need to insert the dvd or it mayneed cleaning. It is a pain to rip some scratched dvds. I need some advice. Which dvd drive should i get to replace this thing? What have people had success with? Thanks

I just got a new DVD drive cos ripping was getting a pain...
I searched around and found most people spoke highly of LiteOn. Goy myself a Lite-On LTD 163D which I easily made region-free.

I tend to rip between 8-12x now, with the system detailed below.

Hope this helps.

Dual AMD AthlonXP 1600+
Tyan S2460 mobo
512 Mb DDR Crucial RAM
80 Gb (DMA) 7200rpm drive
WindowsXP Pro
everything on DMA

Good luck!

Do you ever get the blue screen of death when ripping? I just think my drive is too sensitive.

No never got the BSOD while ripping. I got a new drive cos ripping was slow damn slow before......

Did you try a nice clean install, with all the latest drivers (especially the IDE controller driver) and keeping DMA on, and using ASPI 4.60 (not 4.70)?

Good luck
