View Full Version : Finished movie too large

I used the DivX5 guide, as I have many times before. This time, the resulting avi file is 140MB too large (1,574,424KB). I've checked my settings and everything looks OK. I could drop the bitrate, but with the latest Gordian Knot, there seems to be no way to enter a lower value. About the only thing I can do is change the resolution from704x304 to 672x288 and try again. However, this makes the Load-> 90.1%, with a compressibility factor of .415 and the bits/(pixel*frame) = 0.376. Is ther anything else I can do?

I'm using GKnot 0.26 beta which was the latest a week or so ago.
Not quite sure what you're doing, but if you're doing 2-pass you can select "Calculate AVI file size" in the GKnot Bitrate tab to allow you to change the bitrate.

Thanks for your reply. I will look for that option. I changed the frame size to 672x288 (one size smaller) and the resulting file was 1,088,266KB, about 500mb smaller! Issue resolved. If I had known, I'll try your technique next time.

You said the compress test is 90% for the lower resolution (the button says "Load" because you can load a log file with it. The percentage is the compressibility test).
Your file will get too small with 90% (and it did, because it doesn't fill 2 CD's)
You could do two things: only aim for one CD with the 640 resolution, or try again with the higher resolution for 2CD's.
Something was wrong in the setup, Divx5 doesn't make files too big by 140MB!
