Hi,
usually I don't use subtitles.
But in some movies (like "The Mummy") it's necessary to get some subtitles. For example in "The Mummy" the translation of the old egypt language that is speaken by the Mummy and his lover. Or maybe in other movies some alien language.
Is there a possibility to get only these kind of subtitles and leave out the subtitles for which I also can get the translated sound?
Has anyone an idea?
Thanx a lot for your help.

In many cases, these subtitles are directly encoded on the DVD video stream (much like SVCD Perm Subs) and you don't have to anything with the subtitle tabs.
Other times, they are a separate subtitle stream and should be generated when you check subtitles.
I have not waatched "The Mummy" so I do not know.
I suggest, watch the DVD on your standalone or PC. Is it a subtitle stream or not?
If not, select "Do not rip subtitles"
If so, select "Permanent Subs". Select "English" (or whatever). When the rip begins, you'll be presented with a list of subtitle streams and possibly some info about them. "Deselect" the english stream and make the stream you want "1". You may need to flip through the subtitles until you get to the part where they are translating the Egyptian. Alternatively, rip only that chapter where they are speaking Egyptian to see which subtitle stream it is. Cancel the encode and start again doing the entire movie.

Hi nk1607,
I usually don't do subs either but have a look at my first reply to this thread - this is how I do it if I only want to have some subs for some translation parts.

I haven't done "The Mummy" yet, but if I remeber correctly, then it has also some kind of DVD subtitle streams that are not hard-encoded into the movie so it must be the same procedure.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
to gerti67: thanx a lot. I read your linked thread. I think I will try the method of deleting subtitle-pictures I don't need. I'm sure that will work.
to sandchar99: How can I found out, if it is a subtitle stream or not?
When I watch the movie and turn subtitles of and there are still some text/subtitles displayed then it is not a subtitle stream, right? And therefore I don't have to rip subtitles, do I?
Thanx a lot so far.

You are right. It is not a subtitle stream. It is a part of the video stream. You do not have to rip those subtitles.
Try converting the chapter in question. Select "do not rip subtitles" If you see the subs when you watch the BBMpeg muxed file in Windows media player or WinDVD or mount the bin/cue in DaemonTools and watch with WinDVD then your assumption was correct.
