Hey there!

I downloaded some tv episodes from the web and when I try to play them in WMP or mplayer2 or any soft player I only get audio!!!

the filenames I have say all: TV EPISODE - (YG DivX5s).avi for example. But I do have DIVX codec 5 installed! What's the problem here?

I tried opening the files with virtualdub... Same thing. Only audio no video. divXfix doesnt want to fix the files because it says they are not video files.

Any help? Thanks!

Try setting your screen resolution to 24 or 32 bits of color. Microsoft calls this True Color. If your display is, for example "1024x768x16 (High Color)", you won't see any video.

I hope that's your problem, and that this fixes it.

Actually I have the settings in 32 bits. I wonder what's wrong. Thanks anyway.

try opening the files with virtualdub or aviinfo ( or similar app ) and see what the video stream is reported as - may help. try updating ur codecs for wmp - www.mpegx.com is one place to download the latest codecs.

i actually don't think this is related to ur prob but anyways, my friend had a blank screen with audio a little while back. he uninstalled both his divx codecs ( 3.11 and 4 ) reinstalled and that fixed the problem.

You sure it's not OGG:ed? Look at the header in a hex editor and see if the string sequence OGG doesn't turn up. Or better yet, if you actually want to look at the movie sometimes in the future, install the DS filters available here at doom's site.

It could of course be lots of other things, but it's worth a shot

cheers

OK. I have "DIVX 5.0 BUNDLE" installed.
VirtualDub goes "DIVX5.0 codec" 29970 fps for the blank files with audio only.

I dont know what OGG is but I downloaded "OGGCUTTER" and I was able to open the files. Same thing: only audio. Video is blank.

Guess all I've left is reinstalling divx codecs

Interesting thing 1: I tried VirtualDub to "scan video stream for errors".... and No errors!!!

interesting thing 2: Using VirtualDub to go "fowards" on the stream the images actually appear. But as stills on the places I stop. There is no movement.

in ogg cutter ... hmmm - perhaps ulfshack is right, try installing the ogg vorbis direct show filter as well ( download from doom9 software page ) and see if that works. worth a shot i guess, but they have got .avi extension rather than .ogm.

I dont know what OGG is ...

if u make divx movies it's the audio format to use :D
