Hi!

Yesterday I read an article on onlinekosten.de (in german)about this new processor ( http://itchy.onlinekosten.de/news/artikel.php3?id=9011 ). It sounds pretty cool but Iīm no expert and just want to share this information here. More exact information in english can be found here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/cpu/elbrus-e2k.html (dated July 1999!) or http://www.elbrus.ru/

I've been hearing rumours about this chip I think as far as 6 years ago and no one has seen it yet on a shelf.

Interesting article, especially the english version with the Russian gentleman claiming ebrus will be launching the world's best CPU soon, and that Intel Pentium processors are using an architecture that was developed in Russian in the 80s .....

I'd be more interested to see someone ( VIA ? ) bringing a fast CPU ( > 1.4 Ghz ) based on good old FCPGA ( socket 370 ), preferably SMP capable, to be able to tweak my SMP PIII 800 system here a bit more. Now before you all jump on me saying its no use with an old mobo, stop it : for video encoding CPU is everything folks, the faster the better ..... and i dont do any games, so encoding power is all i need !

Elbrus E2K with EPIC architecture is developed by Russian company Elbrus International (www.elbrus.ru). The project is led by Boris A. Babaian, Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Science. Mass production is planned for 2001 in case the financial basis remains sufficient. We can suppose that E2K prototype will be introduced by the beginning of the year 2000.

Rather outdated stuff, don't you think?

And the seriosity of that article is very doubtable due to many conclusions without any referenced (aproved) sources.

So - nice idea, but looks like a hoax.

Yes, I have to admit that and I must also admit that one of my friends is a writer at onlinekosten.de though he didnīt write this article. I donīt know how much investigation has been done! Perhaps Iīll try to contact my friend and ask ...
Anyways, thanks for your reactions! :) That was all I wanted.
