huffy .avi -> CCE increase your speed x2 !!

Now that I got your attention I found something of... signifagance.
I encode SVCD's at obviously half the movie at a time (2CD's). I make a huge huffy .avi and it comes out to be about 12GB for about an hour.
I have an 866 PIII with 256 PC133 RAM
When I transcode the huffy .avi directly in CCE I got a speed of .310
When I made an avisynth sript of ONLY: avisource("H:\current_encode\VL1.avi") I recieved a speed of .760.
All I did was frame serve my huffy .avi (VL1.avi) though avisynth and increased my speed INCREDIBLY!

Now putting a huffy .avi directly into CCE is dangerous because it crashes half the time, even when audio is spliced in and with the new so-called CCESP patch. But if frame serving it though avisynth, which has NEVER crashed, results in twice the speed...well...let's do that

Would people please test this for repeatibility because...this is amazing. When you test it report the ratio of speeds you got.

Hmmm, see my post about workaround in XP.
I have exactly opposite situation. It's faster when work with Huffyuv AVI, and also in XP it's only way for me to work with CCE.

About crash: what version of CCE you use ? Because V 2.50 don't like files over 2 GB.

And that slow speed may be result of slow hard disk. I use 2 fast drives, and always on one is source and on second target.

Yeah I use v2.50 didn't know it didn't like big files..oh well I'll be frame serving my avi's now anyway
I have 2- 60GB IBM GX75 7200RPM ATA100 RAID 0 stripe Hard drives, I'm sure I've got plenty of bandwitdth :)

ppera, but is it slower if you arent resizing or filtering but simply directly serving an avi? If i read your post correctly you were serving with filters and stuff. I'm bored and should be studying for finals so naturally I'll go double check your theory poop ;)

well, forget that. CCE has decided to hate me tonight (it seems to have good days and bad days.. must be that time of month e.e) sorry guys, CCE isnt working at all- someone else will have to do the testing (and i'll have to actually study.. damn you CCE.. I will have my revenge ><)

what program did you use to conver the vob into a huffy avi. I usually use dvd2avi but that creates and uncompressed i.e 1GB per 60 sec AVI.

virtualdub. I do all video processing though avisynth and output it to a huffy .avi for encoding though vdub

mmmmmmm interesting Can i rezise using vdub filters when saving to avi?
If so surely mutiple passes using CCE will be very fast.

well the whole point of using avisynth is so that you can set vdub in fast recompress and encoding will be quicker. If you want to use even one vdub filter you have to set it to full processing mode, then avisynth's speed becomes pointless and then you are just using it to process video, which is fine.. but you want the speed. Resizeing in avisynth gives you more options anyway

I just want to make sure people are using the Huffyuv version with the CCESP patch and make sure you have the "Try decoding in YUY2 format" option checked in CCE. I use this setup and it's just as fast as with avisynth serving the Huffyuv to CCE and I haven't had any problems.

Also, as a tip, set Huffyuv to use the 'fastest' YUY2 compression. This doesn't affect quality, since they are all lossless, but will result in slightly larger files. But the 'best' setting takes much more processing power to decode, which slows CCE down quite a bit.

Also, by using Huffyuv with CCE directly you can use the newer versions of CCE without using link2.

The only problem with using Huffyuv, aside from the disk space required, is that my system is almost not usable when encoding this way. Even setting CCE to low priority doesn't help, since the problem seems to be that the system bus is too busy, not the cpu.
