Nothing revolutionarry here, but may help...
After unsuccesfull trying to make CCE work under XP, I get rid of frameserving, and decided to try with intermediate AVI file.
It appeared finally as very good solution, and even can result with shorter encoding time in some cases.
Of course I used Huffyuv codec, V2.1.1. Just make sure that output is YUV and not RGB format, or you will get much bigger file.
(Set Convert to YUV2 in RGB TAB). Set filters and resize to 480x576 if you make PAL. In this case 50 min of video will take around 11 GB space, what is not much for today's drives. I count with 50 min, because it is some average length for SVCD. Then make AVI file. Speed will depend much from used filters, but you need to make it only once.
I made it with VirtualDub, but it can be made for example in DVD2AVI 1.76 too in simpler cases.
Once, when we have AVI, it's easy and fast. Feed CCE with it, and you will get nice speed. I had 1.15 with my Athlon@1286 MHz (DDR board).
By default 3 pass encoding, what is actual 4 pass you will spare 3 times usage of filters, so it can be faster than with frameserving.
It will work only with CCE 2.62, because 2.5 (and lower too, maybe) can't work with AVI files above 2 GB.
And hope, you have NTFS - we talk about Win XP ;)
