Specs needed to play DivX5.02 + ogg getting out of hand...

I personally love DivX5, the quality is just phenomenal, but lately ive noticed my rips seem to play more and more jerkily. When I checked on particular rip I made with fairly large resolution, all the advanced features turned on, and ogg vorbis for the audio, I noticed that WiMP uses 95%+ of the cpu... no wonder it runs jerky!

I didnt realise that the cpu grunt needed to play DivX with all the advanced features enabled was so high... surely a P3-650 isnt exactly the oldest machine in the world, and should still be able to play DivX without jerking like crazy?

Have you tried a different player? WMP uses more system resources than other players.

hi!your problem seems to be due to a lack cpu power, sorry. for gmc and b-frames require additional cpu time while the video is decoded. the load for the cpu increases also quite rapidly when clips have a very high resolution. just as an example, my system (athlon 700@ ca.850/133mhz fsb can't play a movie that has a resolution of 704x400 when gmc and b-frames are turned on.

your subject title made me curious .. whats that with '... + ogg getting out of hand ..' ? You using Ogg container for your movies ? Have you tried AVI or MP4 instead ? Results ?

Well the P3-650 is beginning to be lower end machine in these days. U should lower ur post processing setting and turn off smooth playback, and possibly turn on extended overlay and YUV mode from divxdec setup if ur video card supports them. U might also try reducing screen resolution.

I have a K7 at 650 and I can watch a movie (OGM) in WMP with no problems. And the resolution is always 704xXXX, with B-frames and GMC.

But I prefer ZoomPlayer because it doesn't load my CPU so much. Maybe u should try it.

I find ZoomPlayer (v2.6 I think) drops my system resources to the red zone. Win Me, Duron 800 MHz, 256 MB. What about you?

Use ffdshow filter for playback. Lets you set auto processing so it will only use as much CPU as it needs and what you have available.
