View Full Version : Need info on the way overlap works
I usually do multi CD Movies by splitting at a chapters end. I would like to know if the overlap funktion will include the first few seconds of the next chapter, if activated (to get the full fading effect) . Will it also include the last few seconds of the previous chapter, or will the beginning of a CD always start, where specified, regardless of overlap. This I sometimes need for authoring the chapters.
Thanks for info

I don't believe it'll do overlap at all unless you have 2 or more cds per encode. You cut each cd at chapters so I don't believe you'll be able to use overlap at all.

Does DVD2SVCD cut at a chapter change or just in the middel of a chapter?

Hi leonb,
see Q46 from the Q&A, you can split your conversion at a chapter change from the original DVD chapters but as mrbass already said, the CD overlap is not used then.

Ok, I thought this might be the case. Though oddly, last time I tried it on a chapter-vob-size rip, it nibbled a few MB of the next VOB - which gave me hope that it worked perhaps.
Well, still a good gui even if this doesn't work. Is there an easy way to manipulate the ifo to extend a chapter (the cutting one) by one second?
thanks anyway

I don't get it! Why do you encode by chapters if you don't want to let DVD2SVCD cut at the end of chapters? If you want overlap, just encode all the chapters at once and select overlap.
Did I miss something?

ux-3 Vob files are not split along chapter points. They are split by size.
There is no easy way to do what you want to do.
I just leave it the way it does it normally and just use a 5 second overlap. You are going to have to pick one or the other. In this case you can't have the best of both worlds.

I also have my setting for cd overlap set at 5 seconds, seems 2 be the best way if you dont wanna cut in to chapters. I feel it just makes the process easyer to deal with and even if the part that is cut has a high action scene the 5 seconds seems to be just enough. Put that is all preference with some testing you might find whats best for you.....
@markrb: I had the vobs ripped in chapter chunks, so each vob is exactly one chapter. I was amazed that the internal rerip went into the next chapter for a few MB. I thought it was what I wanted, but I think that it is just an issue of timing.
@josibar: I want to split by chapters, but I don't want to split right in a fading or blending. This usually ends 1 second later, so I like to split there.

I see... That would be nice.
Maybe in a future dvd2svcd version...?
