The Others - remove angle & rempeg2

the others has 2 angles and is more than 4.3gig.

do i remove the angle, then rempeg2
or
rempeg2 and then remove the angle?

any help would be great...have tried 3 times with no luck.

Always remove angle ...then make the .cffl file with ifoedit.91 and let rempeg use it to make a smaller m2v...
Then use ifoedit to remux the m2v into the VObs.

Mosaic is right. Remove angle first before rempeg otherwise you'll get a shittery m2v. I rip "The Others" with no problem. ;)

I did it, do the angle first, whatever defaults it keeps let it, then rempg the movie. Works just perfectly.

three times.

i've done it everyway.
three times.

i've tried:
remove angle - rempeg - strip stream
remove angle + strip stream - rempeg
strip stream - rempeg - remove angle
blah, blah

must be problems with my original rip.

i've done 137 of these puppies and this one ain't gonna get me down.

will try to re-rip.

I had similar prob. Removed angles, no prob. but I used Rempeg to create the .cffl file instead of using IfoEdit. Does it make a difference which proggie ceates it? I wasn't pleased with the quality, it was "shittery". I got better results by splitting them into smaller cells then creating a .m2v files, remuxing it back, then use IfoEdit to regenerate regular size .vobs with new video_ts.ifo and vts_01_0.ifo. Results are kind of ok but a bit grainy. I would like to see if anyone achieves success with good quality results.

I've had decent success with "The Others", but not without some effort. I won't tell you about the other 4 methods I tried first (which all failed miserably).

Success:
First, I ripped the entire disc using DVDDecrypter.
Second, I used IFO edit to strip everything except the main movie. This includes alternate languages, angles, copyright IDs, the works. Make sure that correct angle pointers is selected.
Third, I fed the resulting vob set to rmpeg2 (only because CCE didn't work for me this time). BTW, the cffl I created with IFOEdit, caused Rempeg2 to crash so I created it manually.
Finally, I didn't want any of the menus or anything, so all I did was encode the movie and it ended up about 82%. Remuxed with IFOEdit, good to go.

Sorry to mislead you. I checked the final VOB from IFOEdit remux today, and the first chapter looks like ass - full of blocks. The rest of the Rip looks fine, it's just that first chapter. I think I read somewhere that you can use VOBEdit to correct this by stripping individual cells. *UGH*

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be open to hearing them. Otherwise, I'll keep searching the forums.

When you strip angles, Ifoedit will show you a list of vobs even if you did not check strip vobs. This is important. Some vobs are check, some are not. Make sure that you don't change anything. Just accept the default. Rempeg then remux back. You shouldn't have a problem. I've done 'The Others' and similar movies. If you're not sure, follow doom9 guide on how to strip angles. Good luck.

I did "The Others" by copying only one angle using SmartRipper.

Since I use the IFOEDIT/CCE method, I first used SmartRipper to pull down the entire DVD. I then used SmartRipper again and pulled out Angle 1 into another directory. The output from that operation was used to feed DVD2AVI, AVISynth, and CCE. I then used the standard method of authoring and replacement of the VOB set in the original directory. Did IFOUpdate, "Get VTS Sectors" and wrote to disc.

It worked no problem.
