How do I remove the end credits from the main movie? I am trying to strip The Simpsons Season 1 onto a DVD5 but after removing the menu and extras I am still 250mb too big. I just need to remove that little bit more so that i don't have to transcode it (cos it's a lot of hard work :o ) Thanks.

Use IfoEdit to find which cell ID has the credits and remove it. Use the "Preview" button

Or use Vobedit and demux cell id's. Pick what you want to kill and join them back together. Very simple to use.

Thanks to p3distxii and Sepen for your speedy response. Is there any chance of a step by step guide? It's easy when you know how, and I don't know how.

Open Vobedit.
Open the vob that you want to edit.
Then demux it, (see at bottom)
press cell id.
put in a diffenrent destination folder.
look at all the small vobs that comes out of it with your dvd program, I use Powerdvd
Decide which ones you want to delete, then delete them.
Go back to Vobedit.
Press edit,join cell vob titles.
point it to that destination directory and open the first vob there.
Press save it.
When it is done rename it to the vob that it originaly was. Like vob_01_8.vob.
Then what I do is rename the original file to vob.old, and copy the new vob that you just created into the original folder.
You can do this with the first vob file also, whixh I recommend because there are logos which are a different aspect ratio which if not deleted cause problems when reencoding.

It is real easy, I am a moron and can do it.

Thanks Sepen ;)
That was easy!
I have now managed to reduce the size to fit onto a DVD5. Although I had to create new IFOs and get VTS sectors before i could burn it.

This is an immensely powerful tool, now that I sort of no where to start with it. I downloaded it weeks ago but without a guide, I was getting no where. I've tried to look up an VobEdit Guide on Derrow's site but I get a parsing error. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's spending his time on his programs as opposed to wasting talent on Web Master crap. Anyway, thanks.

Have a look at this guide:
http://mpucoder.dynodns.net/Derrow/parttrans.html

This guide describes how to remux a single cell.
It is almost the same to cut the end-credits, except for the remux-part.

When I've got more time, I'll make an own guide to cut end-credits.

Just FYI this is the exact reason why I set up my website that lists movies vob id's by vts set. So people don't have to waste there time previewing different id's when its already done for them. Plus you can make some pretty sweet compilations ....
Check it out

As the end credits are often in a chapter on there own is it not possible to use DVD2SVCD with the riponly option, deselecting the last chapter and then use the output from this to run through ifoedit and do the usual bits?

Well, in MANY DVD the final credits are in the same cell of the last scene of movie.
If I remove the last cell, I remove also the last scene!

There is any other way to cut off ONLY credits?
Thanks

There is a GUI for svobcut?

Using VobSplitter 2.6 I've obtained a VOB not-suitable for authoring.

I've this problem:
the last cell of my video contains a part of movie (about 10 seconds).

I cannot eliminate last cell, because I'll eliminate the last scene of movie.

What kind of SW I can use to trunch only end credits?

I would be able to use this VOB with the other, to use Ifoedit to burn ALL vob files.

How I can do it?
Thanks.

Alright, forgive me in advance for bein hot under the collar. But I purchased a DVD burner to save time encoding. But it seems every movie is gonna need to be recoded or using 2ch audio over 6ch. I haven't gotten to that point, but I "think" the size difference would be a hundred megs or so w/ 2ch audio over 6ch. Are there any movies out there that don't require being recoded, can fit the menus, 6ch AC3 audio and all the movie (not minus credits)? At this point I wish I stuck w/ SVCD, I don't mind the slight lacking in quality over DVD. Seems to be that every movie needs to be recoded to fit on a DVD-R. What a pain! Anyone wanna buy a new Pioneer A05 for $280..? :P What Waste of time and money.

The reason that it wont open the VOB is that the VOB that you are working on is made up of many smaller VOB's if you demux the VOB you will then be able to work on the VOB in question.

why dont you just transcode the last vob in the set that contains the credits.
It might only take a couple of hours and you'll still have the complete film....

MaX_NormaL

I saw a great and accurate way of doing this somewhere.

Do this assuming the credits don't carry over a chapter point, the only one being the start of the credits. :)

Open the vob in question up in DVD2AVI, use preview and using the slider decide where you want the credits to stop then press [ button. Now save whatever.d2v. Open it in Notepad and look 8 (ish) lines down and find line which says

location=0,xxxxx,xxxx

The first five numbers after the comma is what you want.

Open up scientific calculator and enter the hex mode and type in that number. Change to Decimal mode and you now have the exact LBA of the stop point which you can enter into 'STOP' in vStripGUI, which wil cut to that EXACT point.

Kudos to Vidhack for this method, where I saw it anyway. ;)

or if you use tmpgenc you can just cut the stream where the credits start. Do your remux with ifoedit and it works.

I tried following the Max_Normal guide , but hit a brick wall during the Vstrip GUI process.

For 1 I was'nt sure where to add the LBA STOP , i presume i enter the number in seek to LBA ?

anyway ended up with this built command line using the gui

"C:\dvdtools\GUIv0.20j\divxauto.exe" "C:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB" "C:\VIDEO_TS\test.vob" v s343106

then clicked on strip my vob button but got a message box up Auto Select : DivX Low motion 2 100 2000
waiting for ICCcompressorchoose window.

If anyone could offer help on this it would be mooooch appriciated.

thx

Once you have the LBA from the calculator then enter that number in VStrip under input tab where it says End LBA, nothing else needs changing except under output tab which would be the new filename and location.:)

Chopper XP works great for me on my Win XP. However, it took me a few sample test on a .vob file to figure out the " LENGTH ", " MARK IN & MARK OUT ". It didn't come out the way its suppose to be in the beginning when I first tried it.

If you create new ifo's, the original menu will be lost...
I allway use ChopperXP under Windows 2000(YES you read right, not XP) to select exact the scene to be cuted(or saved) and the go into the VOB-Entras in IfoEdit... that's very easy and convenient!
Why? Of you backup the DVD with IC7 and get a slightly oversized VOB-set... That's the solution.

I did't think it would have been so easy! I always used to do "create new Ifos" (and then had to change all the info for subpictures and colours and sounds etc. "daft..."). I haven't tried it but it sounds reasonable. Nice one

Any DVD-5 (single layer) movie should be copyable in full without recording.

UHF is one example of such a movie. Unfortunately other movies need to be split... But I personally consider menus to be unnecessary extras. :)

you dont have to split all movies if you dont want to. Ever heard of DVD2one?

So far no problems.

DvdReMake can cut any cell. It could be either end of last one - credits, or start of the first one - intro, or any other cell to cut some comercials. And it will fix everything in vobs and ifo files so that search (fast forward/backward) works fine.

Actually it can even cut motion menu to reduce its size, and (what a surprice :) ) it will still work.

It is not possible at the moment to cut part inside the cell keeping both start and end of the cell.

Added 26 Oct 04: One can split a cell at any place inside it (keeping navigation correct) and use "cut to"/"cut from" to remove things inside.

Basically, the method you proposed is a common technique using DVD Shrink. I'm a little surprised that this method hasn't been mentioned in this thread until now. Anyways, it'll work but the thing about re-authoring in DVD Shrink is that you end up with movie-only backups. There are some people around though that like to retain the menus. Cutting feature just doesn't exist in DVD Shrink full disk mode. :(

Since this is a sticky, it's worth updating ppl on what the "state of the art" is.

IMHO, if you don't want menus, DVD Shrink does the job just fine. And if you do, I reckon VobBlanker's the tool for you. Get it from http://www.posunplugged.com/jsoto/.

What if you wanted the menu? :) There's also a way which I use now to make it fully seamless, as the DVD Shrink actually writes a 2nd titleset (as does PgcEdit). You can actually make your stills, and mux them into a new cell in the title, and not have that annoying 2 second delay as the DVD goes from the end of title back to VMG then onto a new title again.

If all you want is the main movie, why not just use Shrink? There's that little double arrow icon in the edit box that lets you chop the front and back of any item you're remastering. Kinda looks like,
<--
-->

on the tool bar. I use it all the time to get rid of credits, join two episodes, etc.

r0lZ
16th March 2006, 20:42
If the title you want to cut is in his own titleset, you can even use Shrink in reauthor mode to cut the end credits, and reimport the reauthored title back in the original DVD with PgcEdit's Replace VTST Titles function. (But, since Shrink splits the titles in several titlesets, this method doesn't work if there are several titles in the same VTS.)

Does any of the proposed cut-tools offer the feature of fading-out the picture and sound in connection to the cut?

I always backup only the main movie to save space/compression and sometimes need to cut of end credits as well as discussed in this thread, but normal cuts are very abrupt; not a very professional way to end a movie. How can I make fade-outs in picture and sound when cutting of remaining minutes of tedious end credits?

Interesting...

One method could be:
1.- Extract the cell to be modified (you can use VobBlanker for the extraction)
2.- Reencode video and audio using avisynth and the appropriate filter

FadeOut cause the video stream to fade linearly to black or the specified RGB color at the end. Similarly FadeIn cause the video stream to fade linearly from black or the specified RGB color at the start. FadeIO is a combination of the respective FadeIn and FadeOut functions. The sound track (if present) also fades linearly to or from silence. The fading affects only the last num_frames frames of the video. The last frame of the video becomes almost-but-not-quite black (or the specified color). An additional perfectly black (or the specified color) frame is added at the end, thus increasing the total frame count by one.

Not sure if avisynth is able to reencode the audio to ac3 again...May be you have to take special care with the audio...
3.- Mux again audio and video (Muxman..)
4.- Replace the cell with VobBlanker

For me, the critical (unknown) points are:
- How to make a perfect join in the audio at the begining of the cell?. Mmm... Not easy, some tricks are needed. In any case, one audio frame incorrect won't be noticed at the begining of the credits..... a/v synch cannot be observed..
- How to process the audio?. I need to do some tests..., never tried avisynth as audio processor.
