View Full Version : Matrix patch in CCE with DVD2SVCD?

Hi

I was reading older posts about patching the matrix in CCE 2.5 and all the problems there are with it.

I read that you have to use restream (load thew intra.mat and the nonIntra.mat wich you will find in the cce-patcher directory) to put the patched matrix back into the mpeg-stream, because the cce doesn't write those patched matrices into the stream.

Does the new DVD2SVCD do this automatically or must it still be done manually?

hi
no i don`t think that the new version does it..
you have to do it manuell(with resream)

or you use a higher version of cce cause this versions write the matrice automaticly into the stream

just use a higher version of cce, you will like the quality enhacement, but it will take more time

Just to clear up a potential misread. There is no quality improvement for just moving to 2.62 or 2.64. The only difference is mostly bug fixes and mostly on the audio side which doesn't matter to us at all.
However there is no need to use a patcher to use a different matrix with 2.62.

So for cce 2.50 you still have to use Restream to patch in the matrix into your encoded file?

I must say , I tried various matrices at various bitrates and I can't see any difference in quality. (With or without using restream)

thats right leonb you have to do it with restream..
maybe you don`t see a difference between the different matrixs cause the changes they take are minimal.... maybe try a total "mad" martix..

but don`t know too whats going on with cce2.5+restream(i keep on believing there is a difference
:p )

hi
Basicly, if you don't want or don't need to go to an average bitrate smaller than 1200 bps, there is no reason to play the matrices game. Just use the default. _____posted by bach

mhh im not an real expert on this thing but,i read that the default
matrice of cce2.5 was designed for bitrates over 3000kb`s so i think
there is a reason to try some other matrices when making (x)svcd`s
(at a bitrate from 1400 to 2500)

however, there are many things you have to take care of f.e. the andreas matrice is designed for progressive dvd source and i believe alternate scan(cause originally written for tmpegenc which uses alternate scan) but most progressive source is zig zag
so there are some probs....

bur very interesting

I used the Angel 2.35 matrix on "The Fast and the Furious" with an av bitrate of 800 and max of 1500. Tested it on only one chapter as a test. The scene was average with only mild action now and then. Could not see any difference between Angel and the normal matrix on a TV or computer screen. Also using Restream did not improve it. Not exactly sure how to use Restream, do you need to patch both the Intra and non-Intra into the stream? (I patched both)

That is why I asked if one still need to patch in the matrix with Restream when using DVD2SVCD + CCE 2.50 ....

Where can I find an english explanation of what each of the matrices in the Tsunami patcher does? I can only find German.

So, if encoding with bitrates under 1200, which matrix would you recommend? I mostly create CVD or SVCD. What would you recommend if I wanted to cram a 2hr movie on 1 CD? Looking for a sharper but blend macroblock image if possible.
Thanks

How can i see, what matrix is currently patched in cce?
and the cce2.5 has already some matrixes in it.
the default cce matrix
and the
mpeg2 standard matrix

which one is used by default? and what matrix should i try fpr SVCDŽs at standard bitrates 2000-2500 kb/s

i think the mpeg2 matrix is optimized fpr SVCd , and the cce default is an older matrix from, cce technologies. are iŽam right?

Bach, have you posted your test results with the low bitrate matrixes? Appreciate a link.

How can i see, what matrix is currently patched in cce? ..by jaspa..

simply open .mpv in resteam and save the intra and nonintra matrix...

btw:with this method you also can see the original matrice of your dvd (use smartripper to demux the videostream to open in restream) maybe interesting for making half d1 resolution...

And what is with the SVCd.log fileor DVD2SVCD log file?
can i see there alosthe matrix usesd?

becaue in one logfilei have something like

8.9.10.12.14

and in the second file
16.16.16.16.16
16.16.16.16.16
16.16.16.16.16
16.16.16.16.16

is this the matrix which i used or does the log file always show the sma ematrix.

hi
the second one looks like a matrix file...but don`t know..

but its simply like this:cce 2.5 you will ever get the standard matrice (when not using restream)
cce 2.6X---> you will get the matrix selected in the matrix tab...
