Please help -> 8738 SPDIF probs

Hi - I've got a Cmedia 8738 based PCI card (CMI8738/PCI-MX) to be exact. Problem is the option to enable SPDIF is greyed out, and three sets of drivers later I'm ready to pull my hair out.

I'm running win2k on a shuttle sv24 box, sp2, dx8.1. I have winDVD full installed, which _can_ select spdif output, but obviously i get nothing from it.

I read some -LX and -SX marked chips do not do SPDIF, can anyone tell me if this can be made to work (and how??)

Hello , i dont know if i have the right answer but i have the same card . one of the problems is that you can only enable this option on 2 way speakers if you have set up you card to output 4.1 or 5.1 then that you will be your problem. Other wise i have noticed on my card that it works fine in Windows 98SE but i can have trouble in windows 2k , i had some problems in win98SE when i updated the drivers to the latest ones rather than the ones that came on the installation cd. i hope this helps you and saves you from trowing it out of the window, you can never get a good grip on thoose sound cards anyway ;)
