ive noticed that the encoding progress box has a habit of freezing at random points with 4.5... never happened with 4.1 or 4.3.
curious

does the encoding still go on (and just the box freezes) ?
did u try if it also happens if u don't overclock your cpu&ram ?

yes it seems to.
i should have added that the actual encoding process continues, its just the status update that seemly randomly freezes.

what os do u use?
does it happen with vob's as input or just with mpeg2 files?

okay,.. never saw that bug myself when doing DVD=>DivX but I'm going to look for it next time I encode but since encoding doesn't stop at least it's not a major problem ;)

hmmm
did some more study of it last nite...
inconclusive results generally.
the encoding does stop, which is good.
the square encoding window also doest stop...
and once my screen went to standby mode when i went to dinner, when i came back it was moving again.
very strange.
im also having problems with my CPU i think. possibly overclocked it too far once to often :), so that may or may not be attributing to this odd behavior.
but like u said, the data stream isnt being affected, so its a minor issue only.
if your interested another issue im STILL having is the ability of xmpeg 4.5 to handle filesizes over 4gb.
ive installed the latest xmpeg & divx codec, as well as a flaskmpeg patch for large files but its still no go.
i can load the file, but the progress indicator that pops up on file load acts strange, and i cant zoom to various parts of the movie.
any encoding attempts fail immediately.

The 4GB problem is a known bug of Flaskmpeg and Xmpeg, as far as I know there's no fix for that. If u use vob's as input leave them at a size of max 1GB and use DVD.mism for Xmpeg and Thunderplugin for Falskmpeg, but if u use 4GB mpeg2 files as input there's now way around the problem, except splitiing and seperaratly encoding the files.

Ps.: Btw. Xmpeg got a new offical forum, but theere are some problems with loging in once u registered. http://forum.mp3guest.com/
