Mov -> Avi

I received a .MOV file that I would like to eventually convert to MPG. I started playing with mov2avi, but kinda lost as to what some of the switches should be. I'm reasonably sure that if I can get a .avi file out of it, I can convert it to an MPG. Any assistance on what the switch settings should be will be of great help. Thanks in advance ...
