Splitting DVD-9 to 2 DVD-5s

Hi there,

I'm trying to split my movies that don't fit onto dvd5 to 2 dvd5's. I'm following derrow's guide, but I'm a bit confused on how to determine which files I need to keep. ie: how do i determin which file contains the menu and which file is titleset 1. Any help here would be much appreciated.

After ripping to hard drive - Use IFOEDIT and load up the Video_Ts.ifo file. Then press the DVD Play button. Now treat it like a normal DVD player i.e. The first menu clip will start and drop you in the Main Menu (hopefully). Select the Play Movie option and wait until the film starts. Then press the Exit button. The ifoedit pop up will now tell you which titles it has played. Copy the title numbers down and select OK.

Ifoedit, will now drop you back into the open VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Look at the number title of play maps and you will see a list of titles with the related VOBS next to it E.G.
Title 1: VTS_1 ************************
Title 2: VTS_2 ************************
Title 3: VTS_3 ************************
Title 4: VTS_4 ************************ ad infinitum

The title number does not have to correspond with the VTS number.

So if the DVD Player said you played Title 1 & Title 3 - To keep the front end menu + Main Film you have to keep all the VTS_01_x.xxx and VTS_03_x.xxx

What if you did'nt want any of the menus etc, how would you get around the problem of no VIDEO_TS.IFO files, as default IFOEdit .91 creates the VTS_*1.IFO files but does not create the VIDEO_TS files, this has not been mentioned on any tutorials, may it should hey....

Will the DVD play ok in a stand alone dvd without the VIDE_TS.IFO files.

This problem has been driving me mad, not having a DVD-RW I don't want to waste any expensive DVD-R's as you can appreciate.

Your help on this matter would be highly appreciated.

You need to check 'Create new ifos' when you strip the stream in ifoedit. You always need video_ts.ifo in order to run any dvd.

Did check the box to create new VTS & VIDEO .IFO, creates the VTS.IFO's but not the VIDEO_TS.IFO's.

You need to tick all of the boxes that correspond to creating ifo files etc. from memory I think that it is 3. I use this all the time as it is very handy if the stripped film is just on the boarders for size and the menu vob is taking it over.
You need it to write into a different folder. I think you may be asking it to write into the current folder. Also it is worth noting that if you are not stripping any streams or VOB id's it only writes the new set of ifo files in the new directory and you have to manually copy the vobs etc. I hope this helps.
