I am trying to backup a dvd. I believe that the dvd is widescreen. I ripped the dvd to the HD with smartripper. I installed dvdx to program files/dvdx. During installation of the panasonic encoder, it asks for the premiere directory...I point to the dvdx directory. In Windows XP, I open the ifo with dvdx, and set it up according to these directions:

http://www.vcdhelp.com/The%20fastest%20and%20easiest%20way%20to%20create%20a%20pal%20VCD%20with%20the%20highest%20quality%20picture%20and%20sound%20web%20page_files/

When I hit encode, I get a crash. However, I don't send the error message to Microcrap.

In Windows Millenium, I set up dvdx as instructed above, but no matter what I do I keep getting the same error:

video width and height must be in multiples of 16
video weight is incorrect
video height is incorrect

I have tried various multiples of 16 in the frame resolution section but it just doesn't work.

Can someone shed some light as to why this setup crashes in winxp and why it insists on this multiples of 16 when I am trying 352*288, 640*480, and many other combinations.

Note that whn I try 1024*1024 I just get a crash.

P4 1.6 Ghz
128 MB Ram
Nvidia Xtasy Everything Video

Is the Panasonic encoder better than dvdx alone?
