Jerky TMPG??

I noticed after using TMPG for my first time, the movie seem to be jerky/glitchy at times during the movie? Has anyone else had this problem or know how to correct it? When i used CCE, i never had this problem, but I couldnt stand that stupid logo at the bottom of the movie that CCE leaves behind, so i switched to TMPG.

What usually produced jerky's was not choosing a good average or to low a bit rate or even to high. Also if it is doing a resolution conversion or audio conversion can cause this. Make sure the output resolution & the audio isnt being converted in the filter properties. These are just a couple things I learned, I'm still new to mpeg2.
What you need to do make a test scene & try different settings for that setting till you find what produces the best output, then do your final conversion. You didnt state if it was jerky while playing off hd or cd.(vcd vs non compliant mpeg2) I store some clips in noncompliant mpeg2 noncd playable formats, they will play fine on hd, but not cd bec I want to keep the best quality for hd(and room for future upgrades & tech).

For best (ie not jerky) results choose the appropriate template, PAL, NTSC or NTSC(film) depending of the fps.:cool:

The best maybe for CD or DVD usage but not the best for nonstandard resolution formats like 640x480 or greater then 720x480 resolutions, you have to make your own best template then. Which we didn't really know what resolution he was shooting for.

I have used Tmpgenc 2.54 on Star wars 1 ...with 3:2 pulldown playback...

it plays back jerky ....and if you look at the scene cuts ...u may see a flicker at the cut point (TV only ..not PC). Try counting the frames with frame advance on your settop.
I get (Whole frame =W ,Split field Frame =S) this

WWSS WWSS WWSS WWSS etc.......which is NOT WWSSW WWSSW WWSSW for 3:2 pull down on playback. When i count the number of frames per second ...I get 25 ...PAL!!???? WTF!!??..I encoded at NTSC supposed to get 30 damn frames with 3:2 pulldown. I did this twice to be sure and wasted a DVD-R and 10 hrs encoding/burning.

Tried it on Jurassic Park = same shit.
Tried reversing fields during the DVD2AVI project phase.....well now...
ALL the frames flicker. At least that is normal when u screw the field order.

OK ..What TO DO?

I am trying to encode with the NONINTERLACE output option now. Hope it works. I am hoping that the settop will KNOW its NTSC...and know how to play the disc.BTW ...if u check the # of frames in a movie like FAST & Furious ....it IS 24FPS as far as the settop is concerned. NOT 30....so the settop plays the DVD like a film player. AND whats more...there ARE no flickering frames AT ALL....NO EVIDENCE of ANY pulldown....always a motion blurred rock solid frame on the TV ...and I can tell...as I use a component input 27" TV.

I think the best way to do this is to use decomb ivct in an avisynth script that you load in tmpgenc.
just check on the avisynth forum to learn how to use decomb ivct.
