One step DivX w/ AC3 - is there a simple solution?

Hi all,

I've made a couple of avi with AC3 sound, but it just seems too much hassle. Ideally something a la flask or xmpeg which could handle audio and video and produce an AC3 avi is what I'm after, but I'm guessing I might as well ask for the moon on a stick?

What's the opinion on the easiest way?

Just demux the ac3 from the .vob files, encode your movie, then mux video and ac3 with nandub.
IMO it's easier than using mp3 sound because you don't have to encode the ac3 to mp3.

I struggled for sync on the movies I've done so far using that very method. How's it done properly?

what programs are you using now? you mentioned flask.. do you still use that? if so I can understand why you are having problems. Have you tried out gknot? you can set it to just mux the audio rather than encode ac3 to mp3... shouldn't cause any synch issues. also.. we have an ac3 faq in the audio forum.. you should definitely check it out.. there's a lot of useful info to be found in that document. playback problems of avi/ac3 don't necessarily mean that you did something wrong per se.. it depends on many variables

Just set one going using the gordian knot thing (thanks very much for the guide), seems straightforward enough. Hope it works!

What sort of DivX 5.02 encode speed would I expect from an athlon tbird @ 1550, 512mb of pc133 ram @ 148 and 7,200 raid-0 on Win2k? Got about 15-16 fps in flask using DivX 4.12

depends on so many variables that it's hard to say.. everbody has his/her own preferences and every little switch you touch can and most likely will have an influence on speed. generally I'd say speed certainly shouldn't be lower than what you get with xmpeg..
