Hi Guys,

My first post here, so I hope I have put it in the right section.

I am converting dvd2svcd and after doing this for a few weeks I decided now was the time to start experimenting.
I changed the cd size from 740 to 800 but now my files are comming out at 813mb.
This is not such a problem as it burns well using overburn, but some people are having problems using older cd-writers that don't like to do it.
I have noticed from seeing most other users SVCD's that they manage to keep the file size closer to 800mb, can anyone help to solve this please.
I have added the log from my last rip hoping that this will help.
My o/s is winxp pro, Athlon 1800xp 512ddr.

Many thanks in advance, I hope someone can solve my problem.

ok I've reviewed your info and may I say that was a GREAT amount of info and a nice post:
I'm not too familiar with DVD2SVCD I use all the programs seperatly so I know what it does. A couple things first off:
Your DVD player most likely will be able to support more than 2600Kbps. Try making a test CD with files at a constant bitrate of 3000,3500,4000,4500,and 5000Kbps and seeing if your DVD player will be able to play them. If so bump up the max bitrate. My Apex can play up to 4750Kbps in an SVCD file.
You may want to boost the audio bitrate to 160 just for quality. I usually keep mine at 192 to maintain the highest quality possible. but I've been known to bump it down to 160 if the movie was rather long for 2 CD.
ok now for what you want to know:
-------------------------------------
first a question: is DVD2SVCd making 2 video files because that bitrate with that audio will get you around a 1590Mb file? If so then is that the 813MB you've quoted?
I'm not sure how DVD2SVCD calculates its bitrates but I use gordian knot. With SVCD's you ned to turn on calculate for interleaved frames and 1-vbr-mp3. With your movie length and audio bitrate, you should be making a 1595MB file (adding 4 seconds for your 2 sec overlap)exactly which when split up should fit onto 80min Cd's with a tad room to spare. So I have no idea why its doing that. What I would do is get the mpv file and use tmpeg's mpeg tools multiplexor to make your file mpg file. I always use this and it works VERY nicely. This may multiplex the files correctly.
Please answer the quesiton previously stated which is basically:
What does DVD2SVCD output?

I might be wrong, but I think this problem is only refering the the bbMPEG cutted filesize. On the Bitrae tab, just enter 796 (MB) in the 'CD Size' Field (The choices 740,800 can be overwritten). This should solve the problem of to large file size.

Maybe we should extend Q36 of the official DVD2SVCD Q&A to explain, that this entries can be overwritten

Cheers,
Wooffie

When I use 800 mb's I get a mpg file that is @797 mb's and VCDCEasy creates a file 806 mb's which is the max size my Sony CD burner can handle. I sometimes will reduce the size to between 770 to 800 to get the CD's pretty even. Usually do that when I need to redue the video encoding anyway. I use DVD2SVCD to convert my DivX to SVCD and usally don't have any problems.

One important think to remember when I do a recover to encode video or remux. After I change the CD size value I have to save the settings to the DVD2SVCD.INI file. This is found under the misc tab. Otherwise the changes I make are not used. Very important thing to remember!

Thanks a lot guys you have now cured my problem!!! :D

By shaving a few numbers from the total size, (which I never new you could do) my files are now comming out at a more managable size for most.

Not that I couldn't burn them using overburn, I told my pals they should invest in some new cd-writers!!!

Thanks again for you help. :)
