Duplicating SVCDs

Hi all,

This may seem silly, but I have been having problems duplicating SVCDs which I have successfully created from DVDs using DVD2SVCD.

Here my story:

I have been creating SVCDs using DVD2SVCD with CCE, and burning the BIN/CUE files using Fireburner without any problems.

However every time I try to duplicate an SVCD to a new CDR, my CD writing software tells me that the copy is OK, but when I try to view the SVCD, it is OK for the first 30 or 35 mins but the last 5 to 10 mins are full of long pauses (2-3 secs) and garbled video. This happens whether I view the SVCD on my PC or on my standalone DVD player.

I have used two brands of 80-min CDRs with no success. I have used Roxio software 5.1 with no success. I have used CloneCD 4.0.0.1 with no success. I have used VCDEasy (VCDxRIP) to disassemble the source SVCD and create a new BIN/CUE image in order to burn that one, but the same thing happens every time, ie the copy is good for the first 30 mins but hopeless for the last 5 or 10 mins.

My CD-writer is an IDE ACER/BENQ 24x10x40. I am running WinXP.

Is there something I am forgetting or not realizing? It seems that the only way I can make a second copy of an SVCD is to go back to the original DVD and do a fresh conversion with DVD2SVCD to generate new BIN/CUE images. This may seem ridiculous but it is so.

All I can say so far is that I never had any problems with duplicating SVCDs. I use either Nero's CD copy, or I create an image and burn it again.

If your copies are garbled, then your source sould be as well...

Thanks for your reply bb. That is the strange thing. My source plays fine, only my copies are coming out garbled. And only when I duplicate from an SVCD disk. Burning DVD2SVCD-generated BIN/CUE files from ripped DVDs works fine.

I didn't try nero CD copy yet. I will have a go at that.

I've had that same prob with Easy CD Creator so I don't think its your media - Now I always use nero. Solved it all.

And if there's still a problem after going Nero, you should try to make an cue/bin image again, mount it with "daemon tool", THEN do cd-copy with Nero.
