I want to discard AVI and start encoding in mp4 file format. But I want to know is there any choice of players or the DivX Alpha is the only one can play such kind of content?

the only one I know of is wmp4player.. the mpeg4ip player.

maybe using nic's aac dsf regular media players can handle aac as well but then there's the problem that they can't handle mp4.. and the divx player can handle mp4 but not aac afaik.. I would say atm it's a bit too early to go mp4 all the way

You would think that they would have made a DSF, or a working player that supported both MPEG-4 and AAC. I hope they don't expect someone to do it for free, when they sit back and collect licens fees.

@tscholz:
Maybe I should post the emails I got from Andrea @ DivX Networks asking for my AAC DSF source code.... :)

(I didn't send it, perhaps I should have done....)

Wonder how divx networks are going to pay for their free player. As far as i know, all players (hardware or software), has to pay license fees to the mpeg-4 group. And what about DSF filters!? This would more or less, kill any free project.

@Nic

I wouldn't have sent it to DXN either. If you decide to, make sure to charge a pretty penny under the table;)
