what capture card?

I want to transfer some old film from my analogue camera with the best results possible.I have seen a card described as a pci audio/video capture card composite,svhs & mini din inputs. Up to 640*480 capture resolution. Up to 30 frames per second. basic capture software included .priced at £30. would this do the job or do I need to splash out a bit more? Thanks to anyone that can help

you should look for pinnacle capture cards.
remember sometimes prices says the quality.

You are going to capture from your VCR? Or from the camera's out, which is not digital? Excuse me if I sound a bit stupid, I don't have a camera myself, so I'm unfamilar with the connections. But I do capture a lot from both the TV and old VHS tapes, so I may be able to give you a few suggestions. ;-)

I think you need to splash more than £30. You need a card which can capture in MPEG-2 and DVD-resolution (720x576 PAL). I have an AverTV Studio which cost about £80 which has both composite video in and s-video in. And 80 is cheap. There are many other makes and models that cost about the same that'll do the job.
But which one to select depends a bit on what you aim to do with the captured video.
What is the goal for you? Do you want to transfer the old tapes to
MPEG-2 and create DVD's? VCD or SVCD? Or make DivX-encoded video
(which is what I do)?
Will you output the videos from the computer to your TV?
