Stand alone playback

First I will apologise if this has been covered as I have search to no avail.
I am new to encodinging and have had a good sucees. But a few films I have done ( Final Fantasy and Apocalypse Now Redux) have seemed to rip ok. When I play them on my stand alone DVD they go full screen and shakey. If I just boot a normal DVD for just a few seconds then try the SVCD, it plays perfect in the wide screen mode. In WinDVD it appears to play full screen.

Any ideas oh clever ones.

Violent shaking of the video on standalones was heavily reported when the Anamorphic 16:9 Aspect Ratio option was included in DVD2SVCD.

If your source DVD's are Anamorphic 16:9, if you are not changing the Aspect Ratio to one of the 4:3 options then read the faq's on this here.

Thanks for the reply nick. I read the link and it does explain what is happening. I will try a different encode. What I don't understand is that if I boot a DVD until the first second shows, then replace it with my encoded SVCD, it thens plays perfect. I will experiment more with your suggestions and let you know what happens.

Seems, you only found a way to fool the firmware of your standalone DVD player then. Otherwise, it wouldn't support the "Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9)" option. ;)

Just done a quick single chapter test encode in Anamorphic mode.
The trick you are describing works on my Wharfedale (Sampo clone) player too.

My player is a reoc A5 which is a Sampo clone as well.

This trick has been reported to work on Raite 71x & clones as well (a.k.a. Kiss, Nordic, Yamakawa) ... both Sampo and Raite are ESS-based players, btw. It might depend on the firmware version as well ...
