It is somewhat similar to GKnot, I would rather not get into a flame war on why I like it more though :), just check it out and see.

Wow ... no post for a long time. Got lazy to encode DVDs since i got DSL :)

Well SimpleDivX is only a GUI for MPEG2AVI and Vdub and BeSweet i think. So Encoding should be compared to MPEG2AVI.

Well, I've tried to use this program but I've have a couple of problems with simpledivx

1. simpledivx asks only with for folder with VOBs, but when I have only 1 VOB file from 5 for example, it still calculates the whole movie length and _not_ only for that VOB
2. it is very hard to do a perfect crop with simpledivx

I am a little confused as to why you would only want to encode 1 vob file at a time? Why wouldn't you select all vob files, then encode only the amount of frames you wanted instead?

As for cropping, im not sure what you mean there either. The list of presets might not crop a movie *exactly* (they are there for novice users), but thats what the 'preview' button is there for.

As usual... quite nice application. But there are still some points I miss and therefore I won't use it:

-No support for Xvid (o.k. it's not that serious, I can live with DivX as there are no differences in quality while watching the movie, maybe in comparing it frame by frame, but who cares...)
-only one audio track (I also want to have the original english audio, not only bad translations!!)
-avi suckz (.ogm rulez!!!)


If I have to do these steps myself, I can do all of the steps myself...

XviD is planned for future versions but is not a high priority right now.

If you enable 'extract all ac3 streams' all audio tracks will be extracted.

as for ogm well, I don't think any support is planned in the near future.

OH! Can ya use mpeg2avi for DivX5? I mean with B-frame support and whatsoever? OH how? I feel like I am a Flask guy here. That amateur.

OK now I am finishing my second pass with this program. Hey mpeg2avi is back again REALLY FASTER...!

About OGM - I love it, avi suckz but you can encode just the video and the ogm everything manually.

About Resizing - I HATE TO SAY but this is the worst resize facility I've ever seen. Nothing changes while the preview is on... And I do not remember which utility I was using while making divxs with mpeg2avi.

I remember screenshoting the dvd and then open it in a photo program put my values in a Tsunami sthng calc and get the numbers. Can anyone remember?
