A question from a newbie

A lot has been written about the enormous computerpower needed to make the "natural" look of the fur in Monsters, Inc.
Is it at all possible to rip from a DVD and put it on a SVCD and keep the good look?

The stuff I have downloaded from Kazaa just looks awful.

ps.: I have done a search on "Monsters, Inc." and I'm sorry, if this has ended in the wrong group

Definitely it's a wrong group for your question :)

Anyways ... from my little experience I can tell you that a DVD rip from a movie like Monsters (or Shrek or anything generated on computer and put to DVD) compresses beautifully! Images are static on the large area of the frame, clean and rock solid (no shake, noise or anything) - MPEG codecs love that.
So don't worry, forger that crappy Kazaa rip, buy yourself a copy and make a beautiful backup :D

Cheers,
YS

Filmed screeners are always horrible and I really don't know why anybody would want to watch them...
