I have spent time encoding a video using CCE and have got a very good result. Now what is the best way to author this to DVD without losing any video quality. I have DVDit PE which is ok, but you have to select a bitrate/quality etc when authoring it. Is this going to degrade the quality in any way?

Hi,
welcome !
I read you question and think you need some general guidance. Check out the guides on doom9.org especially the:
DVD and miniDVD Guide (includes authoring, encoding and IfoEdit)
This is great information well presented (with lots of screenshots) comparing different AUTHORING proggies.
First information you'll get is that in basic DVD AUTHORING you won't reencode anything and so preserve original quality.

What about if I strip the movie down using ifoedit, rencode the video using CCE and then multiplex using streamweaver. Can the new vobs just be copied into the ifoedit'd project?

Hi,
I debt that.
First, Streamweaver does not always works as it is supposed to be, well that's said very politically, one could say it's scrap.
Second, it's very unlikely that IfoEdit can get everything right. As far as I know, till today it's not completely possible to fix a CCESP encoded video stream, be it muxed with any kind of Authoring program or muxer (like streamweaver).
But, may be it's a working approach, you could do us a great favor, working out a procedure which enables us to use CCESP re-encoded video stream together with original menues AND chapterpoints.

Well, anythings worth a try if it makes it easier in the long run. I'm going to try this out tonight, already have a rencoded video file so will do when finish work.

what about restream mentionned in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25134 ?
it is said to correct video streams made by cce.
so may be it could be remuxed straight back with ifoedit? (too nice to be true surely...)
anyone gave it a try?

So long as you've encoded a DVD-compliant file (and it's very likely considering you've used CinemaCraft, so I won't bother regurgitating the relevant parts of the DVD spec), then DVDit! need not be concerned with bitrate - this only matters when you are asking DVDit! to import AVI files, and encode them to MPEG2 using DVDit!'s internal Ligos MPEG2 encoder plugin ('GoMotion').
P.S. - I'm not being a snob, but I honestly would advise you to steer clear of DVDit!. In my experience, it's more trouble than it's worth, because it's so picky and unstable.
Arky ;o)
