i have a 90 minute BW movie(dvd) i am ripping onto a 700MB CD.
I am trying several resolutions to get near that 70%(vid size/1st pass size) which is described as "perfect".
however, i cannot get close to that percentage,
im using the bilinear filter, and i can get max 60%.

i believe i take that 70% too serious since i cant believe this small movie cannot be ripped perfectly... and that this percentage has nothing to do with quality

please share your thoughts about that here,
if i have missed a thread of maybe a document describing this more deeply ,drop a link.

I think 60% is ok.
If you don't want to decrease the resolution... you can try to use some noise filter... (but i personally don't like this method)
I dunno if there are filters for BW movies that can help...

Are you using bframes?

You wouldn't be familiar withe B-frames, as they are a DivX 5 feature.

Try out divx 5 with b-frames and at least in this case you prob will get to your 70%. I've had no problems with it yet - (maybe I'm just lucky)
