I try burn some CDs in my school campus's computer, which has a 24x12x32 iomega CDRW drive. But bacause it's networked and I do not have adminstrator rights inside the win2000 OS.
Running Nero gives a message telling me i need adminstrative rights to burn.
So i tried CDRDao , but it can't burn without the win asapi.dll installed, then i tried to run force asapi patch from doom9.org software section. but error meaasages occured because the registry cannot be edited(need adminstratives rights again)

Are there CD-writing programs that don't need adminstrative rights inside win2000 and win asapi.dll layer to write CDs.

clonecd should work if u have an image.
BUT you could just put the winaspi32.dll (or others that u need) file at the same directory of the exe file of your burn program (i.e. cdrdao.exe). that should work. keep in mind to use the one from v4.60 (as in forcaspi) as 4.70 seems to cause problems sometimes. (there WAS a 4.70 version that worked, and then they [adaptec] swapped it with 4.70 version that doesn't, the rumours tell ;) )

cheers

i am wondering is the asapi.dll in the force asapi program some kind of generic driver that will work for all CD-Writers?
I use CDRDao on my home burner acer8x4x32 but it never worked , always give errror message even i installed the force asapi.dll

and i noticed that Win2000 and XP don't use asapi layer at all, is it true?

To jdle
For WinXP try to install Adaptec ASPI XP 4.60 (http://www.clonead.co.uk/). Use CDRDao integrated in VCDEasy. For me it worked. I have XP home edition, no ASPI checker can find valid ASPI in my system, but CDRDao and other software which require ASPI working fine. Rippers also.
For Win2k with administrative rights - I had such a case. Just copy all the directory of VCDEasy on CD and in the computer with admin. Win2k start the program just double clicking on the exe file. ASPI checker didn'n find any ASPI layer (only two of all 4 files - ASPI32.SYS and WNASPI32.DLL) but I've burned the CD with CDRDao successfuly.
WinXP and Win2000 use another layer called mapi.
The last. Iomega and Acer sounds to me like something connected to USB port. If it is the case, forget CDRDao - it doesn't support USB CD-burners
