Region code changing after you rip a DVD?

Hello all,

I recently bought a sony laptap with a DVD player that has no way to be modified for region free playing. I've ripped some DVD-5 movies that were region 1, burned them without using IfoEdit to take out the region code and burned them to a DVD-R. I did this in 2 steps, rip and burn, no modifications of any kind. I can play these on other DVD players but are unable to play them on my notebook DVD, even though they were region 1 to begin with. Why is the notebook DVD unable to play these DVD-R disks but are able to play the originals?

Does it actually give you a region error or do they just not play? I can't play any of my DVD-R's or DVD-RW's (regardless of brand type) on the DVD player in my Compaq Armada M700.
