Simple Improvements that would rock my world! ;)

Hey guys... Greets to everyone! This is my first post, however I've been reading the boards for quite a while. I've been using DVD2SVCD for a pretty long time now, and I absolutely love it. I don't want anyone to think I'm saying I don't like the pie or anything... because I think everything in DVD2SVCD is awsome.

With that said :D I'd like to humbly let the creator know of some of the relatively simple improvements I think would make this already wonderful piece of software even better. (I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this type of idea, but I wanted to see if others thought these ideas were good or bad)

1. There is probably a reason for this, but the "Deinterlace" setting under the "Conversion" tab does not save on the INI files. While I know everything is not interlaced, this setting is relatively going to be standard for the user of the system. (ie. someone like me uses "smartdeinterlace" 99% of the time, while someone in the UK would use one of the PAL settings)

2. Here's the one I've been wanting to see in for a LONG time, and I don't "think" it would be terribly hard to add. For anyone that rips anime (or even non anime o.O maybe ST:NG eps) tv episodes from DVDs probably would prefer to split the episodes in whatever way they want as opposed to having either DVD2SVCD split them weird, or having to put one episode to a cd. A very simple fix for this would be to make the first "CD Size" box under the "Bitrate" tab an INPUT box that accepts values from 20 to 800. That way if I wanted to fit 3 eps on a cds, then I could just set it to 250 or so, and rip each episode independantly.

The CD-Size box already IS an input box, just try to type some value in it instead of using the pulldown menu.

Wow :eek: Do I ever feel like an idiot. Even for all the time using DVD2SVCD I never thought of trying to type in a number there. I just assumed it was only a dropdown box. Thanks Labersack for replying so quickly and letting me know about that.

Well, something I would like to see in a future version is the option to "save" the options without the need to rip... That is, you can "rip only" to save the settings, but if you do not want to use the internal ripping (and you do not want when you rip episodes from a multi episode DVD, or to rip the addtional material of a regular DVD) you cannot save... What I do is to "rip only" one episode and then copy and edit the text files to use the rest of the episodes I had ripped with SmartRipper, but it is cumbersome and very prone to errors :(

I think that the "save" option should be really easy (perhaps there already is and I have not found it! if so, please forgive me for the mistake and please tell me how to do it...) since when "ripping only" the options are saved and so the logic to do it already is in the program.

Another, more complex, improvement could be the ability to select more than one ripped IFO to process... for example, to put 2 <30min episodes in a single CD... You could "create" 400MB fake CDs, but you will need some manual processing afterwards (I used to do all the process by hand, so is not very difficult, but still...) Also, if the episodes are not of exactly the same length, you need to do some calculations to give more MB to the larger one.

And there is something more; perhaps you have a 140' movie... too much for 2 CDs, so you go for 3 CDs with relatively high bitrate. But, what if you would prefer a slightly lower bitrate and include some of the 'additional material' of the DVD? the best option could be to select the main movie and some "extras"; the "extras" will be encoded (with their own options of deinterlacing etc.) at the "min avg" bitrate, and the bitrate of the main movie will be calculated to fill the remaining space. So perhaps the 17' of extras will take 200MB of the last CD and (using 80' CDs) the movie have 800x3-200=2200MB, still allowing a video bitrate probably >2000Kbps
