AC3 5.1 and whole movie in one mpeg2 file

Usually I think I have found a potential bug and then I just find out I was doing something stupid:

Has anyone used the option not to convert / encode the audio to produce mpeg2 files muxed with the original AC3-5.1 soundtrack? (This also includes not making image files). These play back very well through WinDVD and a Soundblaster 5.1 Platinum setup.

I just did this and got one BBmuxed file (ending in "00") of about 800MB that was the first hour of the movie. The "01" file was 1.6 GB and was the entire movie (not just the second half).

I think this is actually an issue with BBMPEG and its multiplexing, as I had the same results by trying to use BBMPEG's time and file size restrictions (under "General Settings") to manually multiplex files, but I was wondering if there is anything one can do through DVD2SVCD to avoid this result since DVD2SVCD seems to interface well with BBMPEG except in this instance.

I wish I could get that far - that option (do not convert audio) is greyed out for me for some unknown reason ?.. Did you have to do anything special (other than go into Advanced mode) ?

You have to turn off creating a CD image first

Always happy to help! Please let me know if BBMPEG muxes correctly -- if it does what it always does for me, the first bbmuxed mpeg2 file will be the first part of the movie, and then it will screw up and then create a second file that is, rather than just the next part of the movie, the whole movie.

I know one can manually use bbmpeg to mux it in the proper parts, but that is a hassle compared to the convenience of DVD2SVCD if it will do it correctly by itself.

In case anyone is curious, the point is just to play movies off of the hard drive of my home theater PC in high bitrate SVCD (I guess it is XVCD since it is out of spec) with 5.1 AC3 sound, which is a very nice combo.

in my case, I want to use it to re-author DVD-9 discs down to 4.7 Gig - Just did a test encode (a few chapters) , works like a charm. I used TMPGEnc to De-Multiplex the video/AC3 file and re-authored in Maestro...

Hey, just like you I am using my PC as the base for my home entainment system. I would highly recommend using PowerDVD XP or the new Windvd 4 to play back your SVCD's. They have a built in Dolby Pro-logic II support, which does an amazing job of making my stereo SVCD's sound like their 5.1 DVD masters...
